Returning to work

Have any of you got a physical job? I work odd nights as a veterinary nurse on my own some of the time and I just wondered when you returned to work and how it was? I am 9 weeks and I have got another 4 weeks of recovery before I start back, but it's lifting?, bending and twisting. Thanks.x

Hi Rachel

Yes I have a physical job 40+hrs a week, involving giving facials, standing 8 hours a day and travelling across the UK. I am 5 months post op and have had a fairly tricky recovery (incl a slipped disc)  so haven't returned to work yet.

Hi Rachel I am a carer for my hubby! He too has oa of lumber spine, hips and knee's and severely sighted and deaf. I am 13weeks post op and still stiff! I am starting swimming gently next week and also will have reflexology. I suffer from anxiety as well! Where about do you work? This Sunday we are taking one of our dogs to a dog fest, near Guildford! So might meet Noel Fitzpatrick! Regards Amanda

I am only 5 weeks post op and still got another 4 weeks off I usually work in a shop on the tills and on the self scan tills, I have to scan cases of wine and beer lifting shopping into trolleys when the elderly can't manage I will have to see how things go

Hi Rachel, I am just 5 weeks post-op and have been a very determined individual! I have had a LTHR and like everyone else on the site have had my ups downs, and miserable days!! I did work as a senior lecturer in nursing until recently and returned to practice as a general nurse when I took retirement last year! I work in a community setting and returned to work yesterday - despite being anxious about going back - I shadowed a colleague - found the walking tiring but got through it ok! I am doing another shift tomorrow and then hope to return to my normal pattern (3-5 days a week) next week! I enjoy going to work and get bored easily!! So dealing with this surgery has been quite stressful for me not only physically but socially and emotionally! However I feel I am just about there now - God forbid that I have any setbacks! I have driven since week 2.5 and physio allowed me back at the gym this week ( in moderation) and I hsve been without stick/s for 2 weeks!! I realise that everyone is not the same, but hope my story will inspire those of you with my determination, - good luck and just take it easy and let your body tell you when you are doing too much .

Hi rachel ... don't want to discourage you here but I am 13 weeks post op, which you will be 4 weeks from now - I would not be able to lift or bend or twist right now .. but I was not in the best of shape prior surgery and other hip needs THR as well ..

be gentle with yourself and take it one day at a time - main thing is to get better and not worry too much about how you will feel in 4 weeks ... warm hug

Hello, I was 11 weeks post op when I returned to work hairdressing, I did have 2 weeks on less days and hours but I would avoid bending/twisting as much a you can for at least a month after your return x
