Hi guys
I had a left hip replacement in feburaray 2017, but had revised surgery three ago today. Although i am walking a bit quicker this time around and am particulary down to one stick in the house. The problem I am having this time is the stupid compression stockings being very tight across the top of my calfs at night in bed and tenderness across the bridge of left foot which i think is slightly swollen , but the main problem is the constant light headiness my doctor took my blood pressure last week and it was fine and seemed to think it was down to the surgery and spinal and epidurail i had post surgery. It doesn’t seem to be settling and I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems as i dont remember them first time round.
cheers
Gillian
I’ve no idea where you’re from but I’ve now had both hips replaced and never worn compression stockings but have to inject myself with blood clotting meds every day. The only problem I’ve had this time and I’m 15 days post op is large haemotomas under my wound. However I saw my surgeon this morning who told me it was perfectly ok and they will be absorbed into my body in due course. However I would certainly check again to make sure it’s not your compression stockings that’s making you feel ill
HI
Thanks for your reply i am from stirling in Scotland the compression socks here are common ,but dont recall having these problems before. we too have to inject ourselves with injections everyday as well as the socks to prevent blood clots. The only reason i think that i am having the light headiness is due to the injections given pre surgery and i also took a bad reaction to the stronger pain killers as the op was longer due to it being revised surgery and they reacted with my IBS that I suffer from. Other from this my recovery is going well. If it doesnt settle down i will see my doctor I was just wondering if anyone was having similar problems as i found this forum very useful last time.
eileen i hope everything settles down for you and you have a speedy recovery
I am very Sorry to hear you are having this issue but you need to be very careful. I did not have a stocking at all with my surgery.](https://)
Sorry you had to go thru revision. so you mean revision op date 2017… on same leg three weeks ago…? did you wear compression socks before?I wore compression socks the first two hip replacements for six weeks after surgery they prevent dvt. i could take them off at night and for showers. by the third revision socks were replaced by daily simple pen injections done in tummy. swelling is normal. keep legs up ice and bed exercises and walk to encourage better circulation and oxygen to the area. walking is the best to keep the swelling down.sending you all the healing angles to lift you up during your recovery!
HI
I had to wear stockings last time too. You were lucky you could take them off a night i am only allowed to take them while showering. I been trying to increase my walking and am icing the hip and the muscle that caused the revision to happen. thanks for your words of encouragement
Hi Gillian
Yes im also experiencing lightheadedness which I’ve read could be from my IBS which got so much worse after my op presumably due to all the anxiety. Hope it goes away soon.
Regards Lesley
thanks lesley
thats what i wondered too it has started to get a little better over the last couple of days my IBS has been a bit off lately but think it is done to the painkillers. I finished the strong killers a week after the op but am still on parcetomal and ibuprohen which can have an effect on my IBS how long is it since your op. I am three weeks in and walking is getting better and pretty much down to one stick in the house.
hope your recovery is going well:)
regards
Gillian
Hi Gill
I’ll be six weeks next Wednesday…on probiotics for the IBS but not much improvement as yet. Worsens over the day after meals. Seeing a gastro doc tomorrow so hopefully things will get better.
What a coincidence! I had a half hip replacement in Forth Valley hospital in February 2017 and i am from Stirling. AND my op. wasn’t very successful so am facing a revision. I don’t have IBS, I have MS and have used this site often. No idea how to message privately on here but would love to get in touch. You’re not from Causewayhead area are you?

Hi Lesley
Ask about the fodmap diet with regards your IBS i went on it after I first diagonised with IBS as I struggled with finding my triggers and lost a lot of weight as a result This helped me a lot and although I still have to watch what I eat my IBS as a rule is usually not to bad.
cheers

Corrieri’s for coffee then? You pick day and time when you are up and about. Easy to recognize me as I’m the one in the wheelchair! Cheery conversation about revisions and swollen legs! Hope they let this through, I won’t put my phone number.
Thank you. I’m an idiot with these sites. Have sent private message. Strange isn’t it. one week you’re talking to someone in Texas and the next to someone from down the road!
