47yo Anterior THR was in July (22 weeks post op). Just left my 3rd opinion appointment and a total revision was recommended by both... likely iliopsoas impingement.
CT scan and ultrasound w/ lidocaine injection next month to confirm diagnosis.
One Dr. wants to replace the entire implant (stem & all) and the other said he’d decide on the stem once he “got in there...” 🙄 unimaginable to think of doing this again so soon since my only experience has been such a difficult one.
Anyone else experience impingement post op.?
Hi Deb i was just reading up about this. Can be caused by the cup being prominent. So maybe its your only option. Have they talked about tenotomy instead? If you google it there are some good research pspers omline. May help your decision.
Dear Debhip
This is really upsetting news for you but at least you have the prospect of getting this resolved.
Unless the stem has been incorrectly set or has moved or is loose I really cannot see why any surgeon would feel the need to remove it.
Whilst I can understand that the surgeon would not want to rule out the need to replace the stem equally I cannot understand a surgeon saying before he opens you up that the whole lot has to be removed. I know which surgeon I would not be going to for the corrective surgery!
I had a revision of a twenty year old prosthesis earlier this year and as the stem was still well fixed all that was replaced was the ball and the cup assembly. Mine was a posterior approach both times
All the best
Richard
Cheers Richard
How absolutely awful for you, at least when I had mine re-done he wasn't going to try to replace the stem. I know just how you feel at having to go through another surgery that was so avoidable if proper care had been taken the first time around.
If you are going to look for any form of compensation, take lots of notes about what happens when, and try to get hold of copies of any X-Rays and hospital notes. Note that compensation claims take a long time, two years on I'm still waiting for a response to my claim.
Best wishes
Graham
Dear Graham
That's really adding insult to injury. Following my being thrown onto the floor of the ambulance bringing me home following my hip revision that resulted in in cracked pelvis I instructed a local solicitor to push forward a claim on my behalf.
I was only looking to cover the costs of a home help coming in for less than an hour each day to get me food for the following day and bring up my post as I was confined to my bedroom for five weeks non weight bearing. I understand that it could well over a year to get a result so I understand your frustration!
Cheers, Richard
Richard,
Indeed, don't hold your breath.
If the other side don't agree to a substantial payout immediately, it could take months. The 'legal people' need to be able to cover their expenses, and due to government restrictions they are only allowed to take up to one quarter of the final payout. I can see my claim dragging on for ages yet, even though like yours, negligence is so obvious.
Graham
