Revision surgery in USA

I will be having revision surgery in August in NYC.  I had an anterior hip replacement done in Nov. 2013.  It never felt right.  The morning after surgery I stood up & had a significant difference in leg length. I felt a bulging pressure in my hip, feeling like the implant was to big.  The surgeon assured me that it would resolve. The leg length has improved but I wear a lift.  I still have constant pressure in my hip & have experienced pain in hip, buttocks & thigh intermittently.  I cannot carry heavy items. I am allergic to nickel, it was listed on my chart & I told the doctor. He said the implant was titanium. I am having a nickel blood test done. My back on my left side bothers me.  I had a Zimmer 3 component prosthesis. The revision surgeon said there have been issues with this.  On the bright side maybe I will only need 1 component replaced & hopefully not the stem.  I would love feedback from anyone in a similar situation or who has had a revision. Is it worse than the first time & what is your outcome? Thank you!

Hi Doodle,

I haven't had a revision, sorry, but what you are describing sounds somewhat like mine. I am only 7 weeks post THR, lateral approach, so don't know if I'm just prematurely panicky. I was getting pretty bad pressure in 2 spots, but I now just think it's swelling when it recurs. Have you talked to any chiropractors or had your hair checked?

Hi

I'm really sorry to hear this, but I think I will be going through something similar next year, same pains as you hip feels to big pushing it up, my leg is 1.5 cm longer, how did your knee cope? Mine is really bad, goes in a different direction now and I can't lift it.

Yes correct to mention getting checked by a chiropractor because this can often quickly sort out back pain or related pain where no amount of Dr visits or tablets cannot. Best IMO to not see a McTimoney one.

Cheers Richard
