Hi, first post to the forum. I’m 60, had BPH symptoms for about a year: major pain urinating, urgency, retention. These would pop up every few months. I’d take Azo, symptoms would resolve in a couple days.
In 2016 I got a Gleason 6 Pca diagnosis, opted for Active Surveillance. Had a repeat biopsy 10/2020. Next day landed in the ER with sepsis. Spent 4 days in the ICU. Lots of antibiotics later I went into urinary retention 11/2020. Have had a foley catheter ever since. My uro tried me on all the meds (some repeats from earlier), I can’t tolerate any of them – I have a lot of chronic health issues including killer migraines.
So I’m thinking Rezum. I live in Norcal, have Kaiser insurance. Kaiser has 3 uros who do Rezum. Two of them will not offer me Rezum because I’m in retention. (When I do cath trials I get a mix of spray, dribble, and nothing. Most recently, ultrasound showed 600cc in my bladder and they re-cathed me.)
I hadn’t heard that retention or semi-retention was disqualifying for Rezum. Google is not turning up much.
One of the docs who rejected me also didn’t like my 100ml prostate.
Two questions:
Can anyone share from personal experience regarding Rezum and retention?
Am I a bad candidate for Rezum given my situation?
Thanks guys.
