Hi! After three attacks on successive days last week ( the final one ending in A&E) I have been diagnosed with suspected gallstones. Since then I have not had the horrendous pain of the attacks, but repeated twinges which terrrify me that it is about to start. I have also had unbelievably sore ribs on the right hand side- excruciating to touch. Has anyone else experienced this or is this more likely to be something unrelated?
Ultra sound tomorrow, but I have convinced myslef that I am cured as I have not had any further attacks. ( Please don't tell me I am on cloud cukoo land!!)
:? Well now- don't know whether to be happy or more worried. My ultrasound has shown no sign of any gallstones.
My three 'attacks' came on very suddenly and were most definitely in the middle of my stomach, as it intensified the pain spread under both ribs causing difficulty breathing, thenn into my righht shoulder and my back. The pain was unbelievable and I did wonder if I was somehow actually in labour without rrealising I was pregnant! I lay down on the floor because of the pain which made me groan and pant . the first two episodes happened almost directly after a light lunch and lasted about 30 mins. The thirs time was at half four in the morning-I awoke in lots of pain, was very grey and sweating profusely. After about 15 mins I retched several times without bringing anything up. My husband was so concerned that he took me to A&E ( the pain had subsided by the time we got there, again about 30 mins) I had an ECG , bloods etc and was eventually given the gallstone diagnosis. Since then I have been very tired, twinges in my stomach ( especially when hungry) and general discomfort at times, with the rib pain described earlier. Prior to the first attack ( about 14 days) I had had quite a bad stomach upset with lots of diarrhoea and was unable to eat much for about 10 days, surviving pretty much on water and chicken soup.Alo for several years now I have had periods where I have what can only be described as a 'full up' feeling and now see that as very very mild version of the pain experienced duirng my attack.
Sorry for this very long message. I guess I was just wondering if it is possible that I did have a gallstone that has passed, whether it is possible that an ultrasound may have missed anything or if in fact the horrble pain I had was all in my imagination. I had been kind of relieved at the original diagnosis and my symptoms seemed to fit so well with other posts I had read here. Now I feel back to square one and just cross my fingers that the pain was a one off ( or a three off as it were!)
