Having had 2 episodes of PE the last this January, I am now on Riveroxaban for life plus I take an aspirin every day after a Heart Attack and stent. My major problem now is nose and face bleeds lasting up to 45 minutes leaving me with severe headaches and feeling light headed. My Doctor won't take me off it and is seeking other advice. Ear, Nose & Throat have cauterised one side of my nose to no effect, but getting appointments with them takes 12 weeks. Anybody else had this problem and managed to get it sorted ?.
I also seemed to have some issues with Riveroxaban. In my case it was rectal bleeding (daily), very bad headaches and very bad joint pain (back & knees). Also, I was quite "muddled" finding concentration difficultand I felt dreadfully tired. I was switched to Warfarin and the bleeding reduced next day and was gone the day after. Headaches stopped almost immediately and joint pain much reduced after 48 hours. I hope you get sorted.
Peter, Thanks for your comments, it seems for some unknown reasons my Doctors will not allow me to go on Warfarin, but they are now prepared to consider stopping Aspirin which was a requirement of having a heart stent. Just waiting for an ambulance now as I am bleeding into my catheter, and that has to be stopped ASAP. Fed up with hospitals !. David

I hope the hospital visit has gone OK and you are on you way home. I am not sure why your doctors are not keen on switching you. Maybe they are not sure of how to make the switch, as Rrxb is a fairly new drug and most switches are the other way (Warfarin to Rrxb). With me, it was simple: once other causes of the bleeding were ruled out, they switched me without hesitating. Both my specialist and my GP were in favour of the switch. The testing for Warfarin is simple and quick and the nurse tells me it is still cheaper than Rrxb, even with the testing. Success at last, got out of hospital on Friday and have now been on Apixaban for nearly a week with no nose bleeds so far and feeling much fresher. Doctors now saying that quite a few side effects are coming out with Rivaroxaban, the longer it is being used.

Really pleased to hear you have been able to switch to different medication. Sounds like this one suits you better.
Please let us know how you get on in the longer term - even though I seem to be getting on with Warferin ok, it would be nice to know there is an alternative out there.
