Roll call for all scheduled for 2nd thr in august-september

There are an astonishing number of us. Perhaps my brain is fried, but I am having a hard time keeping track of who and when. Please give a quick update: name, date, status on hip #1 and major preoccupation this time around.

Linda - 64 yrs, posterior lthr in Feb 2016 and about 75 % function/recovery of leg and other bits and pieces although brain fog has apparently not dissipated! 2nd hip to be done Sept 20th and not too soon although not looking forward to week 1 again😨!

I hope to be more aggressive with activity levels but patient with the healing process - has anyone managed a good balance with this for the 2nd hip? Any suggestions?

Hugs to all the fabulous support team in this forum.

Linda

Hi, linda Ann here going for my second thr on 17th August, first hip was done 8 years ago. I also had knee replacement four years ago, still walking not very good and need stick.  Can't walk up uneven ground, which really annoys me and not able to go swimming locally as baths not disabled friendly. Best wishes

Lynn -60 yrs. First hip February 2016 posterior rthr. No pain in that hip now but other hip holding me back. 2nd hip September 21st not looking forward to those awful pump up things on my legs the first day and bed pans!!!!! Never got the hang of those. In fact moved straight on to commode first day. So proud.

Going to be kinder to myself this is time, not try and rush recovery.

My first grandchild was born a month before my first hip op, my second is due a month before my next op. Looking forward to being able to chase them around in the future.

So glad I found this site. πŸ˜€

Thank you xx

Hi Linda,

Gwen here, 67 years but looks a youthful 66 πŸ˜‰.

I had my first LTHR 21 December 2015 and am very pleased with my progress. I walk a couple of times a day with a cane to support my other leg. I can sleep on my operated side very comfortably.

My next THR is next week the 19th August. Anterior, ceramic. I am ready for this now having had to cancel it twice this year because of a heart condition.

I have found this forum extremely helpful over the months and the advice is really helpful xxx

Best wishes to everyone.

Hi. Polly here. I am 59 and going in at 7.30am tomorrow for my  Right hip rep. Had my Left hip rep. 2014. I seem to be nervous this time even though everything went well last time. I see a lot of people here have not had full anaesthetic but have just had epidural and been aware of what has gone on. I haven't been given any choice thank goodness. Just knock me out!  Has anyone got any ideas how to raise living room chair as mine is too low. NHS should have sent a contraption to raise it but forgot and I forgot to remind them, so hubby is not happy as he is going to set me up on a pile of bricks! Any suggestions would be welcome. Good luck to you with ops tomorrow or soonest.

Polly if youre in the UK the OT at the hospital should give you elephants feet to raise your chair up to 22 inches, they will talk to you about what you need before discharge, you can buy them on Amazon too. Good luck tomorrrow, which hospital are you going to?

Hi Linda,

Hi Polly, Annette here )59) I am having surgery at 7:30 a EST tomorrow too, now if yua re in the UK you will probably be walking by tht eimt I go in, good luck to you!!!

Hi Polly,

Best of luck tomorrow. I wish you a surgeon who is meticulous, nurses who are generous and family and friends who are compassionate and ... chair lifters!

Sue has advice below (I live in Canada, so cannot really help - except that Amazon really is amazing for things I have needed - I just ordered a set of massage balls for my feet!

Tell your anaesthetist that you want to be fully out - they are gery accomodating.

Big hugs,

L

Hi Gwen - I think you 'look even younger'! I cannot imagine how frustrating it must have been to have your surgery cancelled twice - all that build up and all that let down. Waahhhh!

Good luck next week. I wish you a patient surgeon with smooth hands (!), warm nurses and a loving family and friends to care for you once safely home.

All my best,

L

Hi Kim,

Two sleeps! How nervous are you?! I was pretty nuch a basket case even though I really, really needed the surgery.😨😨😨😒.

Wishing you a sexy, smooth and patient surgeon, nurses with a great sense of humour (I needed it - my reaction to the anaesthetic made me think there were swarms of killer fruit flies) and look ing family and/or friends to care for you once safely home.

All my best,

L

Congrats Annette - you've come a long way from your first post here. I really hope you are as calm as you sound and that the operation goes smoothly so you can get home to love and care.

Big hugs,

L

Hi Linda - I feel we should be waving or something!πŸ™‹πŸ™‹!

I know you have been struggling - I hope things get easier for you soon. The knee tales quite a beating as it is used as the fulcrum to 'disengage' your hip 😒😣, so it will be complaining for a while in my experience. Once that it is done there is the adjusting to your new posture and gait so ... expect aches and pains for a while. Sigh.

I wasn't permitted to full weight bear for six weeks (2nd hip was as bad and I have bad osteoporosis), so I can't really advise about weight bearing. I hope it gets better soonest, but please be patient with your poor body - that is one tough operation.

Hugs,

L

Hi Lynn - we are virtually twinned at the hip. Our operations are so close in timing.

It sounds as if you are doing well and I sooo envy you the grandchildren. Talk about a positive motivator for putting in your work for a complete recovery!

Sending positive vibes for your surgeon to do his best work and for your family and friends to give you all the support and care to keep you going through the recovery - at least we know what we're facing and what we need to do.

Big hugs,

L
