Rotator cuff injury

I have been diagnosed with this and suffer much pain in the shoulder and collar bone area.It affects me when I write-I fell down a couple of years ago and wonder if this has made it worse.I broke my wrist when I fell but if I write even for the shortest period of time I suffer with an awful ache throughout my arm, hand and at the back of my shoulder. When the pain is 'full blown' it is excruciating.Any advice would be appreciated as my GP said just to take Ibuprofen and rest!I am 62.

Hello Maria, you have all my sympathy as I know just how painful it can be, my doctor prescribed me Codein tablets and they do help a little but they also cause constipation, he also prescribed physio but how that can repair a tear in the tendon is beyond me so I asked to see a consultant and hopefully have an operation to repair the tendon, (I see him on May 27th) in the mean time I bought an arm sling, it's made of foam and it's the best thing I could have done, the pure rest of the arm has made a massive difference, the pain is no where near as bad, it cost me £5.49, I would think Boots the chemist would stock them, hope this helps, let me know how you get on, James16105

Hello Maria I have justv2 weeks ago had an operation for a shoulder impingement when I visited the physio 3 days after the op she told me only to use the sling foam when I was out and about as constant use of it can result in a frozen shoulder and only for 2 weeks after the op . I totally understand the pain both you and James are going through and also I understand that seeing a physio with a tear how can that help but when you start to live with pain in your arm and shoulder you use it less and less so there is a danger that you create other complications it's worth trying to get a couple of sessions through your Gp as physio can also play a part in supporting you in having an operation as they will spend more time with you than your own doctor and yes James was right stay away from Codine if you cannot tolerate constipation😀😀

Hi Maria, I saw my physio a week ago and besides the exercises he also suggested Acupuncture so I agreed as I had nothing to lose, for the next 3 days the pain was really bad but on the fouth day it started to subside and each day after that it has been quite amazing as all I have now is a slight dull ache. The relief as you can imagine is wonderful, I can now do things like getting dressed, combing my hair, etc etc. wether it would work for everyone I just don't know but it's worth giving it a try, you have nothing to lose. Keep us informed.  james16105
