I had rotor cuff surgery, accromioplasty and some clavical bone shaved off 2 1/2 weeks ago. The nurse in post up told me to keep sling on and ice. Do not let the arm straighten. I was not told anything by my doctor until I called about pain. They then told me I could take off the sling. Only my return to work letter said the restriction of movement of my arm. I start P.T. at 4 weeks post-op. I am pretty aggravatted that I was not told what not to do. I do wear my sling to ensure I restrict my movement. Is it unusual that the doctor did not explain after care. The nurse in his office said the post-op nurse should have told me. Is this normal protocol?
No one told me the reality of if. I came here, to me that was the worst part, not knowing. I learned a lot from these posts. My opinion is the doctor dropped the ball big time in explaining things.
So sorry you’re going through this. I think it depends on the doctor. My doctor told me I will be wearing the immobilizer, not really a sling, for six weeks. He told me about this before surgery. I would wear that a mobilizer 24/7 for six weeks. That’s what I was prescribed. And yours sounds much worse than mine. I’m 8 weeks out, have had 2 physical therapy sessions... and I’m doing much better. It needs to be in one spot to heal do not take the sling “immobilizer” off. Good luck with everything
