Rough nights.

Had a very rough couple of nights, waking nearly every hour and also several bathroom trips as well.  I have been massaging my leg to help the fluid as per the physio and it is moving...  Saturday and Sunday the leg so easy and I could walk no problem. Monday my leg was so stiff it hurt, and as I say last night was awful.  It seems to be two steps forward and one back in recovery time. I am  12 weeks this Thursday post op.

Bend is great, sitting I don't know I have a new knee...straightening is not coming as good but getting there slowly. Physio does deep massaging to help.   See the consultant on 10th June.  I am also T2 diabetic which I don't know if it is a problem as healing is slower.

Hi I am 12 weeks bilateral and seem to be having the same problems as you, all I can say is look forward, it will get better as everyone keeps telling me and do the exercises to straighten as theses will help, good luck x

It does get better hazel that is all I can say really. Yes it is hard work at the stage you are at but it is well worth it in the end believe me.I had TKR 3 years ago and now it is like having my llife back.

Take care and keep in touch

Love Sarah xxx

Hazel I'm struggling myself this week. I'm almost 14 weeks TKR and my leg has stiffened and become more swollen. I'm still doing my exercises, resting, drinking water...everything I'm meant too but I've just hit a wall.

I think with me it's a mental thing. I've been told I need further surgery to straighten and physio have told me they can't help me until I have this as its so bad. I see my consultant on Thursday and I think I'm more nervous of being told I have to wait or can't have surgery than actually getting it done. I just want a good leg after all this and to get back to work.

I have definitely taken a step back at the moment though. I'm hoping tomorrow is a better day for both of us xx

Hazel, my friend, seems like we are suffering together! I'm 12 weeks post op on Friday, and over this weekend seemed to take a massive backwards step 😞 The pain was so bad I thought I'd managed to damage the new joint somehow, scary thought! Anyhow, I struggled on with my exercises, and walked round a football field for a car boot sale yesterday. I managed to pick up an exercise ball for £2.50, and added it in to my routine last night. I don't know if it's coincidence, but I'm SO much better today, nowhere near as tight in the back of the knee, and nowhere near as much pain. Maybe it's a flash in the pan, but I'll take what I can, when I can!

SLEEP however, is a different story. Absolute nightmare. I managed about 5 hours in total last night, but was awake at least 6 times! What I wouldn't do for a proper nights sleep!

Sarah, I had my left knee done 8 years ago so I know it gets better, 6 months to actually get that knee to bend properly...straightening no problems...so no 2 kness are alike...even same surgeon but this time measured digitally? for knee.

Kathryn, I too think its a mental thing.  We expect too much of ourselves and when teps back happen...we suffer bodily and mentally.  We will get there.

Terri, Just been out for a walk around the local town, not our usual route, cut short by not going into a couple of shopping areas...but bought a new top and nail varnish  to cheer myself up!  Massaged leg after I came back had 2 paracetamols, done some straightening exercises but giving the exercise bike a miss for this afternoon as leg still feels a little stiff.  My sleeping pattern  was bad before the op, in fact I can't remember the last time I slept  5 hours in a stretch.

Hi Hazel, I am 10 weeks post BTKR & was feeling & walking so well that I actually thought I had finally made it to the end of pain.  Then yesterday I went shopping for a few hours & last night & this morning the aches and stifness are back again!  Frustrating +++

Sandra, it seems we celebrate too soon....same happened to me yesterday...very stiff this morning and sleep last night was non existant.
