hi all
I am 7 month LTHR posterior approach everything going well was back at work at 4 month at my manual job, can walk miles and ride 40 mile on my mountain bike off road all pain free and have no problems at all. Except I can’t run without groin pain, now I don’t mean running as in exercise because like my consultant said it’s one thing I shouldn’t do. but it’s a simple thing like jogging accross a road or messing about with the dog, just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.
Hi Philip,
Greetings…
Sounds like a good recovery and the walking and biking sounds strong and good for your health and body a d soul.
I got back into running g about 7months after the same operation, and didn’t have any pain… Sori to hear this.
Maybe see a personal trainer or physio cos wondering if it’s psycho somatic and there is a scare factor with a physical pain.
My PT got me jogging 100 metres, walking 500metres, repeated… So a slow sure programme which she upped slowly.
Good luck in your recovery
Warmly

Hi Philip,
I am 7 months and occasionally get a bit of groin pain after a lot of exercise. I am going to 4 classes a week 2 pilates, step aerobics and zumba plus walking the dog everyday. I am hoping it all settles in a few months.
Hi Philip
I had a good recovery from my hip op, some 10 years ago.
Got back into walking, road and mountain biking more or less straight away. Even survived a few fall offs early on too.
I used to coach at a boxing club and went out running with the kids and did shuttle sprints too.
But, it never felt the way running had before. My abductors and adductor muscles must have still been weak because that hip felt springier than the un-operated one.
What has your consultant said about the groin pain?
Hi Larry
my consultant discharged me a couple of months ago so never got round to mentioning it.
it doesn’t effect anything else just thought it strange that this happens only when I try a bit of a run of only a few yard. Although he did say because of the muscle he had to cut it would take a year to be as good as it’s going to be. other than that I am pleased with the new hip, this time last year I could hardly walk.
Which muscles did he cut??
I didn’t get any physio for months after my op which is why i think the muscles didn’t recover.
don’t know what there called but it were the muscles behind my hip but I did have physio from day one up to about 5 months.
Where did you have your op?
the park hospital Nottingham
Righto.
Had mine at Wrightington in Lancashire. Operation was a complete success but obviously the follow up lacked physio.
hi Jen
I remember you having the op about the same time as me, sounds like your doing really well those 7 months have gone quick and has certainly giving us a new lease of life.
.
hi thanks for that, not to concerned as my running days are over just if I need to run I struggle, but on the positive side I can do everything else I used to do without any pain.
I must admit Philip, when I had the twelve week precautions to face it seemed such a long time but, looking back yes, the seven months have flown by. I have been really scared of dislocation so have held back probably more than other people. I think slow but sure is for me the best way to go. It is lovely walking without a walking stick which became the norm and as a young sixty two (eighteen in my head) it makes you feel old.
Walking as far as you want and riding your bike as you do sounds like you have recovered brilliantly therefore, I would not worry about jogging here and there, I just walk fast. ![]()
