Hi I'm 6 weeks into recovery , just had cast off and given boot with 3 heel wedges, told to take one out each week by time see consultant in 4 weeks foot will be flat, only problem I have I still haven't had a scan that was talked about so much on my first hospital visit when I had cast off last Thursday consultant didn't exaimine my foot just gave me a boot said shouldn't hurt now and I'm being scared because been in cast for 6 weeks , well my heel and etc foot hurt it feels like it did when I first RAT the bruising is still very bad , I know boot is heavy I first thought that was why my foot wouldn't move ,
Sounds like you had an operation? It seems alsmost a matter of hospital/consultant preferance about operation or conservative treatment; I've not had a scan/xray and a week into an aircast with 3 wedges and weight off. I see consultant in 3 weeks. Have a look at this for recovery advice http://www.uwhealth.org/files/uwhealth/docs/sportsmed/SM-27399_AchillesTendonProtocol.pdf

Hi Samantha, have you read this leaflet?
You ought to go back to your doctor, have you been given any follow up appointments?
Hi Samantha, sounds very much like my docs! I'm now into week 14 and still walking with a limp. I did eventually get a scan but that's because of my physio as he thought it wasn't healing due to the Thompson test not showing any movement after 4 weeks. It's a hideous injury and hope to hell it never happens again. I'm now into a strengthening programme and am at the pools 3-4 times a week. Just walking in the water and trying to strengthen my calf which is very weak. The boot is great as you can take it off and give it some fresh air, slow movements are good too. Just be very careful when you get adventurous and try walking without the boot!! With bruising....I still hv slight brusing! Take care, any questions please just ask
can't believe you havn't had any sort of scan or examination, did you have an op, or conservative treatment, it will be sore for a little while yet i'm sure, i'm 13 weeks post op, and really flying now, still getting the odd twinge but nothing major, you will get used to the boot and once you get going you'll be fine, but just go easy
Hi , I had the conservative treatment , the other problem I have is that top of my foot is numb and also my toes, I put it down to way my foot was in the cast but still hasn't got any better and nearly week out of a cast so going to Gp see what they say
Am glad I had an AirCast for my conservative treatment; it means I can adjust the pressure to make it more comfortable and carefully take it off to wash every so often.. hope thats not done any damage; feels ok so far. Good luck
