I posted in the 'low vitamin D' post below, but I'll repost it here: I have tingling in my feet and my legs often feel 'off' when I wake up in the morning. It's hard to describe, but they feel weak/tired/wobbly. It typically lasts for a couple of hours and they feel fine the rest of the day, although the tingling/burning feet comes and goes throughout the day (they're typically fine in the evenings/overnight). I wonder if it has to do with my Vit D levels? I've never been *that* low, but I'm wondering if I still need more? My level was 25.9 in Feb 2017, so my doctor told me to start taking an OTC supplement (in addition to my daily multivitamin). I started taking 2,000 units daily and my level increased to 34.3 in Feb 2018. Looking at the reference range, 30 seems to be at the low end and 80 at the high end. I'm due for bloodwork again in early March, so I'll be interested to see where it is at that point. If it's still on the low end of the range, I will ask my doctor about bumping up my daily intake. Thank you for posting this, I am going to do some research on Vit D and menopause symptoms! My additional question is: what supplements do you take and what helps with your symptoms? Other than a multi and the Vit D, I don't take anything. Are there things that you're supposed to avoid? Or things that should be taken together to help? I don't know much about supplements, but I'll certainly be asking my doc at my next appointment.
morning tebrown! take calcium with the vitamin d it helps the body absorb the D
take care
I was at the doctor the other day and she ran some blood work and told me to take some vitamin e fish pills I also take a multivitamin and vitamin D i go back in a month to see if this is working just started the vitamin D & E starting to feel better. Still have the hot flashes though but i'm not as tired and run down only been on this for a week so far. you might look into taking some menopause supplements but as doctor first in case you have other med's that might counter act with what you are taking. Hope this helps and you get to feeling better.
Good morning! I agree with Pam take calcium as well. When I started peri my vitamin d was low as well so I started taking an OTC vitamin d3. My gyno suggested calcium as well. I also take biotin for my hair skin and nails. Vitamin d is considered the sunshine vitamin. It helps with your moods. I have noticed a difference in how I feel since taking it for 2 years. I bought one called Vitamin Code its Raw. They said it is as close to getting it from food as possible. My calcium is the same. I hope this helps :) Have a great day and be good to yourself :)
hello what is vitamin code i have never heard of it and where do you get it at i would like to check in to that
Thanks that is nice to know i will try this and see what happens. Thanks again for your input.
Hi Doris that is the name of the vitamin. I got mine at a vitamin store. I hope that you can find them :)
Vitamin Code Raw d3 and Raw calcium
hi I thought the same so I had my Vit D checked, it's 74 but I still get tingling/vibrations in my feet. my B12 is ok as well. so I think it's related to hormones and all the anxiety it brought on for me.
thank you
Okay we have a vitamin store i'm going to look for it, Thanks its on my the list

I am taking 5,000 IUS a Day of Metagenics....Vitamin D.....I would definitely do a full blood count of all minerals and vitamins I think as we enter into perimenopause and menopause some of these minerals and vitamins are deleted from our body and it's very important that you keep a close eye on it I should probably be on 50000 I use one pill a week but all three of my doctors said no it's surprising knowing that my level is at 8.7 and they don't want to take quick measures to get my vitamin D up as quickly as possible so I'm not suffering and feeling all these symptoms with the tingling in the feet wobbly legs off balance dizziness cramps in the legs and the feet muscle spasms muscle twitches it's all got to do with a lack of vitamin D
yep my doctor says to take more D and some E vitamins I don't know dose i don't remember if she said any dosage amount I guess i better find out, call her Monday morning
Hello,
I don't take additional calcium as I'm in bhrt but I take a multivitamin, menopace, cod liver oil and use rescue remedies and homeopathic remedies xx
i agree that does not sound right. 10 years ago my vitamin D was at 18 and i was quickly put on the 50,000 pill once a week as well. took for a while got levels rechecked and sopped taking it. but now my levels are low again. if you can, find a rheumatologist or the like and have her put you on it.
I have the same burning feet symptom when my D is low! I get burning sensations on other parts of the body too. (The insight of my legs--sexy.) I also get terrible muscle aches like I have the flu when my levels are low. I have to supplement 7000 IUs a day to get my level up to 60. And if I miss a few days, my symptoms come back.
Vit D is fat soluable. (It only gets into the body carried by a fat.) Counter-intuitively perhaps, it is best absorbed with a cholesterol. I eat 1/2 a hamburger in the morning with my supplement. So maybe start by keeping yourself at the dose you are at, but making sure to take your vitamin with an egg or something that has a bit of cholesterol.
You've got really good data here. For an increase of 2000 IU's of supplements, your levels went up about 10 points. Maybe discuss that with your doctor? Your body might do best with a level of 50 or so. Certainly in the median of the range, but higher than 34.
Let us know how you are doing! XXOO MaddysMom
Thanks, maddysmom, for your response. I do take my supplement with food that contains some fat, but not sure about cholesterol. I will certainly talk to my doc after seeing what my results are in a couple of months.
