I am nearly 5 weeks post op form a uterus prolapse and had a sacrohysteropexy procedure. The surgeon reassured me that the mesh used and how it was performed abdominally with laproscopic keyhole surgery there was no risk of erosion etc into the vagina. Has anyone out there had this procedure? It would be nice to talk to someone who has had this procedure too.
I had this surgery four weeks ago, also TVT. Feeling good this week, pretty much back to normal
Hi Carol, How has your recovery been going? Obviously you said you are pretty back to normal now. I did not have a tvt? Is that a support for the bladder? Even though i have had the sacrohysteropexy done and i am starting to feel fine now, i keep worrying about the mesh. I was told this is a very robust repair and i will not get any problems with mesh erosion etc. What were you told about the sacorhysteropexy? I am just hoping it lasts for the rest of my life. I am 48 years old. I did not want a hysterectomy even though one gynacologist reccomended this for a prolapse of the uterus but i was worried to death about having a hysterectomy. Just hope i have made the right choice. How did you decide that a sacrohysteropexy was the right decision for you?
The first three days were uncomfortable, due more to the holes in my tummy than the mesh.
Yes, TVT supports my urethra.
I researched both operations online and took a particularly bad article to show my consultant.
He said in the fifteen years he's been using mesh, he's had three cases go wrong and they were referred from other hospitals.
I researched him and he is a top surgeon in prolapse repair.
I decided to put my faith in him and so far so good!
As the weeks go by and you recover, your concerns will hopefully subside.
Hi Carol,
Yes, i did the same thing pretty much, well sort of. I had three gyno opions and the third was a top surgeon in prolapse repair. Perhaps the surgeons is the the same one. Might be better not to know as we might start to worry if they are different! i researched hysterectomies and then found a story online about a lady having a sacrohysteropexy and she thought her only choice was a hysterectomy which then led me onto the surgeon for my third consultation. You do have to put faith in the surgeon and hope he has done the right thing by you. I guess life is full of ups and downs and problems and it is no good to keep worrying about something that has not happened! I guess you will have to deal with it IF it does. I am glad you are recovering well. Will you mind if we stay in contact from time to time just in case i have any further questions?
No, worrying is not going to change anything and it's such a waste of time, when we can be out there enjoying our life to the full.
Yes, please stay in touch, I have my check up appointment on 3rd August: assume yours is round about then. I'll let you know how that goes and vice versa.
Hi Carol,
Yes that would be good. I have not arranged my post op appoinntment yet as it requires me to travel some distance from home. A 4 hour drive! So emailing the gyno to arrange in the future. I have a gyno physio appointment in July ref: pelvic floor exercises though. I am also perimenopause so dealing with that as well! Oh the fun of being a woman! I think in my next life it may be better to come back as a man! But i guess health is genetics and a numbers game what ever sex you are! Here's to our recovery and a good life! Will keep in touch. Thank you so much for responding to my post it is so good to speak to someone! You are welcome to contact me anytime : )
Hello, I had tvt 5 years ago with 100% success, keyhole. I had stress incontenence for many years which got worse to the look of a low quality exsistence. I rested and dushtvlift a thing for up to 10 weeks. I don't think I will ever risk any heavy lifting. I got my life back. Unfortunately I then was diagnosed in feb 2016 with anterior cystocele
( bladder prodruding outside of my body) I was sent for physio, twice, complete waste of time. I found a specialist in the north of England I live on the south coast! The rest is history, I'm 4 days post op after having sacrohysteropexy. Im back on this forum because I want to find out if other women are having similar after symptoms as myself. I guess I'm concerned about the pain, I have been told it will go, it's just the body dealing with the foreign parts! I was lucky I didn't need a vaginal repair but that's what I wasdisn for a double op in fact. Feeling happy and relieved and can't wait to get my life back. :-) xx
Hi Clementine55. How are you feeling now? I hope the pain has subsided?
I had a posterior repair last year and it definitely took the full 3 months they warned about to fully recovered.
I have been offered a sacrohysteropexy too and considering my options - Bolton and Oxford seem the most experienced - was your Surgeon in Bolton?
Also curious - I thought sacrohysteropexy was used just to treat uterine prolapse but was yours a cystocele prior to surgery did you say?
Sending pain free thoughts!
Hi keep smiling, I am 3 weeks post sacrohysteropexy and perrinography, and like you it was done with keyhole surgery, it seems to all be healing well so far. I researched the operation well and think it was a better option for me than a hysterectomy. There are a lots of scary stories out there and every now and then I frighten myself and wonder if I did the right thing. I am sure I did, as I do a lot of dance and this will be a more robust repair. I am feeling so much lighter and happy not to have the bulge.
Hi mabel21470,
Time has passed since i had my surgery. I now dont look back on it. It was a very anxious time for me. I just did not want a hysterectomy!! Who knows i may have to have one for other reasons in years to come but for uterus prolapse surgery has moved on. You dont need one nowdays. I wish you well and i am pleased you feel GREAT. : ) You live your life to the full!!
Thank you Keepsmiling15, I have up days and down days so it's really positive for me to know you are through it and happy! 🙂
Hi , sorry for late reply I've only just had an email notification, also just seen the typos☝🏼 I couldn't fix as no edit button.
I went to Bolton yes and I has the sacrho for uterine prolapse I didn't need the cystocele so I was lucky. The surgeon's consultancy was spot on, he did say I might need both procedures but maybe only one, I'm guessing everything went back into place once he lifted my uterus! Yay!!! I'm sooooo 😁
The pain faded to nothing I was free of pain by week 4-5. It's 8 weeks post op for me now, I feel 100%. . Today I jogged for the first time in a very long time!! I'm getting fitter and have just downloaded an app with an exersice plan. I want to get really fit and drop the rest of the weight I gained from being disabled for 16 months.
You have nothing to worry about if you chose Bolton. Which Surgeon are you hoping to see.
best wishes. xx
I'm glad you are on the mend Mabel, well done !!! It's not easy huh!! xx
Same! I'm so glad I didn't have to have hysterically lol but you know what I mean... also nice to read some POSITIVITY. Think positive. You can do it!!! xx
Hello I am hoping you are still active on this site...I have been told I need the same operation and of course with mesh yet again being in the news it does cause concern although the dr reassures me it is whe mesh is put into the walls and not used as a support...I am going to see the Bolton dr for a second opinion and was wondering how you and all the other ladies are now after a few months post op
Hello
8 months on, I feel 100% happy with my surgery, haven’t thought about it in a very long time. If you see Bolton surgeon say hi from me! The man is a genius and should get more credit. He changed my life. I think I’ll wrote to him and let him know how great things are. I wrote after 2 and 6 weeks.
The things I did was eat non junk diet which was no junk cut right down on sugar, cut wheat & grains. I did some mindfulness work on myself and so reduced anxiety by 90% leading to my surgery. After I followed the rules to the T! The surgeon gave me instructions. I rested and forgot about housework and all other duties for a long time. I didn’t need to rush because there’s plenty of time after recovery. I was told that rest is paramount to heal the wounds caused by keyhole- the body thinks it’s been attacked and can’t heal as fast if we choose to do housework instead of resting. I couldn’t be more happy. Best wishes
Hello thank you for your reply so pleased that you are 100 % happy with your surgery...I'm just so concerned about the mesh especially after recent news again..I am going to see Bolton man on Tuesday. It's scared not knowing what to do for the best x
My advice will always be to avoid this operation, I am disgusted by the completely inaccurate statistics that have been given to patients regarding the risks of this operation. The truth is starting to come out now - and will be made more clear in the near future due to a nationwide audit of all patient data.
The risks of this procedure far outweigh any benefits..and things can happen years down the line, mostly after two years - unless this polypropylene mesh is inserted incorrectly, in which case complications can happen immediately.
Mine will be removed - and that is a way more complicated procedure, and the same will happen to several other women I am in communication with - who had this operation even more recently. Joining the Sling the Mesh Facebook group is one of the best ways to equip yourself with knowledge.
Was a hysterectomy offered as an alternative?
