hello all, so I saw the respiritory chap Friday just gone, for all of 10 minutes, his first question to me "why are you here" which was'nt exactly encouraging given all the recent diagnosis. he took blood, sputum sample, arranged spirometry test, is arranging physio to show me exercises to loosen my lungs, showed me the door..........

Sorry to read this I have been awaiting your update! I can imagine this has made you feel frustrated - especially as its been a waiting game already!!
I really hope they get back to you shortly! How annoying. On a positive at least you are heading in the right direction and just think this is a stepping stone to the next stage for you :-)

yes frustration is the name of the game at the moment for sure, although I did forget to mention that I did get some good news same day, had a phone call from my GP when I got home, the biopsies taken from my osophoegus were non malignant, yeeeha!!!
First and foremost - so glad about your oesophagus!
What the specialist did was pretty standard practice. You have to remember bronchiectasis is not a disease - its a form of lung damage so once you have a diagnosis they need to move you on to daybto day management of your condition. Physio is really important, sputum tests to find out what bugs are lurking (we all have our own individual cocktail!) and if necessary follow-up antibiotics, spirometry to find out lung capacity etc. This is all that they can do tbh. Once you have bronchiectasis it can't be cured just managed. But once you learn to live with it and do all the things you need to do to manage it then you can just get on and live your life. They don't seem to operate so much these days. When I was young they would take out the affected part. Some of my childhood friends had the operation but it was very invasive and it seldom seemed to achieve the results hoped for. I never has it because my bronchiectasis is scattered about my lungs not just in one place. The physio should help a lot.

Hope you are feeling better about things. Just wanted to say that when a health professional asks "why are you here" it's usually because they want you to tell them in your own words so that they can assess what you already know. They will have your GP's version & hopefully test results already. ☺️

Great News! typical specialist, but that is so good; all the right tests, no cancer, physio' to sort out that suits you, now you can enjoy the spring. Lots of walking... when the weather warms up.
