Hi I am really worried take you back to 2012 bearing in mind a was a fit healthy male of 39.
When I had a chest infection that just went on to long, so doc sent me for xray came back
With slight shadow on left lung but after several trips to hospital was told it was just a shadow from arteries, nothing to worry about, but CT scan to be on safe side.
Came back with something in left lung turned out an infection which cleared up, but unknown to myself also shows up with a lump inside my 6th ribb 2cm long.. Will explain the me not knowing later on.it all came to a end felt fine again.
Now 2 years later on probably me being Anxious went to docs with chest pain left side asked for a CT scan, turned out nothing wrong apart from this lump inside my 6th ribb which I was then told about .. Which show up back in 2012 it had not changed in size .. But that wanted a bone scan now to make sure , so in space of 5 weeks I had a chest xray, CT scan, bone scan all turned out ok.
Now six weeks on I now have a pleural effusion in my right lung, which is very painful and I now do have a problem , where all the test before nothing wrong ... Now thinking that all the tests scans has brbrought all this on ....very very worried what has caused this, docs said it was probably from a flu like virus I had ,, I'm not convinced , maybe from all the test scans on my body.. Really quite scared.
Hi, Martyn. I am sorry you are going through all of this. It's good you are following up on the things they find. The tests do not cause the pleural effusion. That comes from having a cold or a flu or an infection that causes that sort of effect. Hang in there. Follow your Doctor's advice. If you feel he isn't taking care of your situation adequately, you could always get a second opinion. I only had a bad cold which went to my lungs and it has lasted for almost four months. FINALLY, last Friday the Dr. says I am over it and to start doing light exercises and walking to gain my strength back. It just takes time, lots of rest and following the Doctor's instructions. Hope you feel better soon.
It all seemed so close to one another, xray , ct , bone scan. In space of
5 weeks, that turned out to be nothing, And then this pleural effusion, cos
I am very rarely ill, I still have it 4 weeks on, just worried because all the info
I read about this points to cancer causing a underlying problem, It is worrying
Me a lot, with a young family, can't help but thinking the worst.
How are you doing, Martin? I certainly hope you are feeling better. Maybe more follow-up with your Dr. and asking pertinent questions. I find it helps to write down the questions before the visit to the Dr. so we stay on track and to put to rest any worries we might have. Hope you are seeing marked improvement.
It sounds like you might have had a latent infection that finally came to light. The tests don't cause the problem but, hopefully, they should show the effusion or anything that is causing your infection to hang on so long.
