I am 10 weeks post op and other than getting a slight infection in my scar at 4 weeks (treated with antibiotics) my scar has looked great. Now it is starting to pull and sting. Is this normal?
Hello Sharon, I spoke to my physio lady when I felt that my scar was giving me soreness and she told me to get some bio-oil and massage this into the scar and surrounding tissue - twice daily for at least 3mths and this really worked - 7mths on I am still using it as it helps. Its a bit expensive - are you in UK as there is I think a bit cheaper substitue in Boots. I got mine at morrisons

Hi Sharon, It is quite normal to itch & pull, part of the healing process. I used E45 itch relief twice a day. Did the trick.
The nerves are growing back.
Oh, unless it is hot and red and you have fever. Then something wrong.
Hi Sharon
I was told to use bio oil as soon as the dressing was off.
I did and it worked.
I checked Boots and it was quite expensive and then tried Superdrug.....not called bio oil but very similar and a lot cheaper
Restoring Skin Care oil.......its for scars, stretch marks ageing skin {thats me LOL} or dehydrated skin

I've had 3 THRs and a 4th scheduled for 😤May.
Only the last, 3rd one, ironically the most successful, has given me scar issues.
The op was on 1 October 2014 and for the past several months I've had seriously painful symptoms. While there are no external indications of any problems, I'm constantly having to cope with seriously painful internal sensations. It feels as if there are something like finger nails pinching me very tightly from within.
I'm assuming that this is just nerves 'waking up' but I'm finding it very distressing.
Of course I've massaged in the usually recommended lotions/creams regularly, but none of them have given me more than around an hour's relief.
Bugger!
Yes, its normal. I was told to use baby lotion at first and then go on to bio oil. As this is a bit expensive unless on special offer, I use a cheaper one called Restoring Skin Care Oil and this works but you have to be patient, don't expect miracles in one go. Best of luck.
Hi Barbara
Sounds like the one I used.....from Superdrug?????
More than a year later I'm using it again....its for all sorts, ageing skin, dehydrated skin etc

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have very sensitive skin and eczema and i am allergic to many lotions (including Bio-oil and E45). I will try my emollient again, but as it is like lard it is not very pleasant lol! I has a really good look at my scar yesterday and it is still looking good, no redness etc but i notice a large dent in my thigh muscle. I wonder if this is connected to the pain? It sounds reasonable to me now that it could be nerves awakening so thanks for that suggestion (never thought of that) Anyway thanks again to everyone.

I don't particularly like Bio Oil, or find it effective. Also, I've had several medical professionals warn me off it.
I've tried loads of options and here are the ones that have helped me most.
1. Coconut oil (it comes in solid form)
2. Argan oil ( pongs a bit, but dissipates in just seconds)
3. Eucerin lotion (great multi-purpose)
4. Topricin

Think my earlier response is being moderated because I named 2 brand names. I think that's a bit rich, given the fact that Bio Oil references seem to escape it.
I did say that (pure) Argan oil and coconut oil have been very effective for me.

Hi Eileen, Yes its the one from Superdrug, but I really think any make of baby lotion works just as well as an ordinary moisturiser, but the oil is good for ageing skin.
Best, Barbara
Have you tried the nappy cream that contains pro-vitamin B5? I won't mention the brand name here.. It does not contain any perfumes, antiseptics or preservatives.
Here were I live you get the product labeled for normal people, I mean not only for babies. For me it really works for any skin stuff that needs healing. Works wonders for wrinkles too.
I thought about getting coconut oil, thanks for the suggestion.
Is this in the UK? If i just google nappy cream with B5 im assuming it might bring it up, silly isnt it that you can not give the brand name . Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi Sharon
All you have to do is pm Heidi
She can tell you openly on that the name of the cream.
Click beside her name and then send her a pm and hopefully she will reply
