Hi Hippies

I had 'glue' for my second THR 12 days ago, unlike the first time which was literally just a line (4months ago). The wound is dry but very 'crusty' ( sorry but can't think of another word).

Any advice how to treat this? I am in the U.K.

20 days post op. I had glue too and a mesh-type cover for about 2.5 weeks. The "line" did get a little "crusty" at times but like any scab, you are best to just leave it alone. It will come off... I was specifically told NOT to use anything on it. Let let the water run over it in the shower etc. air dry.

Hi, I had glue for my fist on March 27th. Went home on the 29th and woke up and the insision split open. Think it was caused by me falling hard back into my chair the night before. Had to have a 2nd full surgery with full general annestetic. Was not fun and very painfull. Glue should allow for you to put some creams or moisturizer to help with uour issue as long as it does not open.

Hi

Had glue for my THR and am now in my 8 week post op and still have a little glue left. Surgeon said it will dissolve in time. Doesn't both me so leave well enough alone. Amazing how they do things nowadays

I had glue 4 weeks ago how can you tell if the glue is still there?

My surgeon told me to use vitamin e cream on it.  It will soften it up. And then when the sorness goes away, or as I can tolerate it, I need to massage the scar.  I found a great YouTube video on how to massage the scar properly. Sorry I don't have a link to it, but you can go on YouTube and ask "how to massage a scar".  I wasn't aware until after watching the video that you should massage it in all directions because that is they way it heals (in all directions).  I did not rub my vitamin e cream in with much pressure.  I just put it on the scar and gently rubbed it in. I did this 3 to 4 times a day.  I hope this helps you.  Wishing you quick healing. Hugs to you.

Thanks Barbara. It's just I hope to start hydrotherapy again next week and it doesn't look pretty like the last time. I will try the cream and patience! I am 2 weeks post-op.

I'm now 13 months post THR & I used coconut oil. It's brilliant, better than Bio-oil & my scar has virtually gone. Lots of places sell it (Holland & Barrett, TK Maxx in the skincare section or any on-line retailer) but my favourite at the mo (I carried on using it) is Palmer's. Just like their popular cocoa butter, the coconut oil comes in the same packaging but with a brown lid. All the supermarkets sell it, it's cheap & it smells good enough to eat!

Thank you so much for that. My first op in March was a simple line scar, almost gone. My second scar is very ragged of 2 weeks ago. A bigger op, bigger cup due to much more damage.

I am so grateful for your advice. Will use on both scars.
