Scar still numb and appears to be sinking?

Had posterior RH replaced on 3rd January and adore my new hip!!

BUT my scar seems to be sinking and my thigh seems an odd shape. My scar is 7 inches and healed well, but still numb.

I get a very sore scar, which feels odd when it’s numb if that makes sense,  when I’ve been on my feet a lot - I’ve got a wedding venue so this time of year I’m doing  up to 15,000 steps and on my feet for 17 hours per wedding.

I’m nearly 52 and I’m not bothered by the scar being on show in bikinis etc, but it’s making my thigh look odd to me when I’m in skinny jeans.

Any ideas - or do I go back to my surgeon?

I have/had the same. Anterior approach. Numbness and thigh shape can take a year to normalize, so says my surgeon (and others)

Hi Carolyn is it the muscles that are weak causing the dent in your leg, can you exercise it and see if that makes a change

Molly, that's probably about right. I had my left hip replaced last August. I still have a little numbness in the area of the scar. The scar is looking really good and I do massage it twice a day with oil.

Hi Carolyn

I had my 2nd hip replacement (Right hip), just before you on 27th Dec 2017 and I have the same thing. The muscles still feel numb and tender in places and I cant lie on my right side properly for very long. My left left hip was replaced 11 years ago and there is still an indentation there but no pain. On the right side it is still slightly swollen but I'm sure if I were to build up the musles it would be ok. If you are concerned, speak with your gp or consultant. Im 47 and work as a carer in a care home and also in the community. Good luck xx

May take a year and you still may have a slight numb feeling. Give it time no one will see your scar. Mine is about 10” Long Posterior

I had my anterior LTHR January 8. Hip is great with no pain anymore (after years!). Also have the numbness in my thigh. Surgeon said both ice and heat could be used. I massage it, too. I had a lot of tingling (nerves?) but that isn't so much anymore. I also heard that it can take about a year for full healing and hopefully most of numbness to go away.

If I ice at least once a day, it seems to feel better. No pain.

following for answers, as I have the same issues with indentation and numb with pain.  I did have cortisone shot as they thought scar tissue, but no change.  I also have lots of pain while sleeping. it was Mar 15th 2018 I had surgery and still can't sleep on either side, but on my feet lots, and walking the dog at fast pace 5-7kms most days

Dot want to pester surgeon but want to know what is causing this and if I can do anything to help it go away
