Hey all, new to this so here it goes..
I am a 21 year old male and have some worrying symptoms and the docs say im fine.
About 3 months ago i started to get some pain in the chest near my heart and shortness of breath, so I immediately went to the doctors and after seeing 3 different doctors all telling me i had some sort of virus and there was nothing they could do to help.
I than seen another doctor who did an ecg which was normal. But after a week i still wasnt feeling well so went back and than had a chest xray and some blood work done. When i went to get the results back from the doctor i had gotten worse with my glands in my neck swelling up, my throat was killing me i could barely swallow! And it was all inflammed and puss covered, running a fever of 38.6 and night sweats with an aching body, And i had got an infection where blood was taken. They told me i had what looked like acute bronchitis in my right lung, and had a look over me for other swollen nodes and spleen and liver, which they said my glands in my groin were up and so was my liver and spleen. So the doctor immediately said i had glandular fever and gave me antibiotics. After a week of bed rest and having no appetite i still wasnt feeling well so i went back and the doctor told me i had been infected with ebv virus (which is what causes glandular fever) before so it couldnt be that. I than had more blood tests and a ct scan of my abdomen and pelvis done, which all come back fine aswell.
Since than i still havnt regained my appetite and i have lost about 6 kgs, my glands in my neck are still up but not as bad. I have seen another doctor since and have had more blood tests taken and throat swabs and am due for a ultrasound on my glands on friday. I feel like my bones are starting to ache but i cant actually tell if im just thinking myself into it or not! I am so worried i have leukaemia or lymphoma or some other sort of cancer and i cant help but worry all the time about it
i have been told that it could all just be anxiety but im hoping to get to the bottom of it so i can stop worrying myself into it. Sorry for the long post
Don't apologise for a long post, it's good to get it all off your chest. I really wouldn't worry about any form of cancer, all your symptoms are very typical of glandular fever - no appetite, high temperature, swollen glands, extreme fatigue, aching etc. etc. So have your scan done but stop worrying!
I was okay with the fact that i had glandular fever, but than other doctors have said it cant be because i have been infected with it previously.. not that me or my family can ever recall.
And my grandma died of leukaemia and thats why im worried it could be that. And well yeh ive had a ct done of the abdomin and no lymphs are up so thats a good sign just need to wait for my ultrasound and than talk to the doc i guess. Ive had what seems to be infection after infection over the last 3 months and my anxiety and worry surely isnt helping
Okay so now i have swollen nodes well ones i can feel anyway, they are 3 in my neck 2 on left side, 1 on right side. I have just noticed one near my right collarbone and another just near my jaw on the left side below the ear
I have my ultrasound booked for tomorrow and am going to get them to check it all out thoroughly, i than have to wait until monday to see the doctor again unless blood results are back already. Im hoping for a positive outcome but im thinking i may even ask for a biopsy to rule it out once and for all
Hey joy, all my bloodwork and chest xray come back normal again..
my ultrasound of my nodes says they are reactive and my doctor said to get more blood tests done and another ultrasound in 3 months..
i cant deal with the stress of it, i feel like im getting nowhere they have been up for 3 months already
What you need to do is get your anxiety issues dealt with first. See your doctor, explain that you're not coping with the stress and let him sort that out. Tell him that you're struggling with having to wait another 3 months.
I have and he has given me a low dose ativan to take before bed to help me relax and sleep,
Hi. Let's get things into perspective. Your bloods and chest x-ray came back normal. That's excellent. You say you have had infection after infection. If you're at a particularly low ebb for whatever reason the body's immune system takes a hit and you're resistance is low. Hence all the infections. If your doctor even slightly suspected that you could have cancer he wouldn't leave it 3 months before another ultrasound. If you're still not reassured the only thing that I can suggest is that you get a second opinion. Good luck and let me know how you get on
Thanks joy, he said that because there is no elevated lymphocytes in my blood he doesnt suspect it to be lymphoma. the fact the ultrasound says they are reactive and they dont know what to is concerning to me, i will have a chat with him when i see him next for other test results. Hope your doing well x
Hey joy,
After further consultation with the doc i am going to get a us guided fine needle biopsy done
Excellent. Please let me know how you get on.
Hey joy so im booked in for tuesday to get the fna done as a specialist needs to come from out of town because the health system where i live isnt great
That's good news. Once the biopsy is done you'll know what's what and can deal with it. Please let me know how you get on.
Yes i hope so, definitely over feeling so run down all the time thats for sure! And now my sore throat has returned, but im fairly sure my dr wants to do a endoscopy as ive had reflux problems for awhile now
Hey Joy, got results back yesterday which were pretty inconclusive. Basically was just told they are reactive nodes but no findings.. so have been referred to a haematologist
Well at least they are still investigating which is good. Please let me know how you get on.
Yeh still rather annoying though. They may want to look at a full biopsy next as i have more nodes popping up but the existing ones aren't getting any larger or going down
Hey joy, still no luck with all of this. Seem to have be sick with a virus nearly every week now, more tests done and nothing can be found. Still have all the enlarged nodes and all
Hi Kurt. Can I ask where you live? Are you in the UK? You need to get a proper surgical biopsy done. FNAs are all well and good but because only some of the cells are taken cancerous ones can be missed. A surgical biopsy removes the entire lymph node for testing, so if I was you I would push for that. Let me know.
