Scared of blood pressure arm cuff?

Im 17 year old male and i am scared of bp arm cuff, this has been going for 4 months. When i put the cuff on my arm i instantly get nervous and anxious and when my BP is getting taken i start to worry what the numbers will be. I remember a month ago, one week i wasn't scared of it at all, i wasn't nervous, anxious, neither i was panicking. It was like i didn't care about it, and the numbers were low, but then the next week i started to be scared of it again. So can someone give some advice of how i could be not scared of it again?

Yes, many people have this happen also. First of all,  you are only 17 years old.  At that age, it's very unusual to have very high blood pressure. Unless you have another medical condition.

even if you get nervous about your blood pressure being taken, your pressure won't go that much higher because of your age.

when you get anxious, don't try to fight it off. Instead, take a couple of slow deep breath's and tell yourself "I acknowledge that I'm feeling anxious and that's OK.

I can handle it. I know this will pass and everything will be fine. "

Repeat that  over a few times if you need to.

Think of calming  things like watching a beautiful sunset or walking the beach or being with your pet if you have one, things like that ,

don't forget to breathe slowly and deeply and blowout through your lips like you're blowing out a candle.

When you do that it also keeps your brain calm  so that you can relax.

Remember, no matter what,  even being anxious,  you're not going to have a sky high blood pressure reading at your age.

you will do just fine! ❤️😁

Hi Eriks, the more you have it taken the more used to it you become, Jan has said it all really but when having BP take n make sure you mention to whoever is taking it that you get like this and they can take that into account when taking a reading, they call it white coat syndrome.

Drs are so used to this as its a lot more common than you think so don't fret too much about it.

Thank you for your reply. Half a year ago i was diagnosed with mild hypertension, because i was panicking constantly for no reason, i didnt exercise as much, and my diet was tons of candies and just meat. Now o got it all fixed and im looking forward to taking off the meds with doctors supervision. But the arm cuff usually bothers me, because when it starts squezing my arm, i start to panic for no reason.

Yes aspinan  is right! This is so very common you wouldn't believe it.

They see this all the time.

Everything will be OK!

Like aspinan said,  just let them know this happens when you have your blood pressure taken in the clinic.
