Schzioaffective disorder

Hi

I had bi polar for twenty three years and due to psychosis four times and hospitalized the doctor upgraded my illness to schzioaffective disorder and put me on antipsychotic aripiprazole

On the upside I am back at work and have no voices or hallucinations, which is great. I find this drug is better than risperidone, but am still struggling on it. Feel blunted and no motivation i miss enjoying life and socialising. I make myself do things but the drug holds me back.

Louise

Hi Louise. I have paranoid schizophrenia and have to take antipsychotics in order to be able to function and go to work. I've also been sectioned on a number of occasions, so I can fully sympathise and relate to you in these ways.

I dont know much about schizoaffective disorder, but I know about antipsychotics. I had aripiprozole for a short while, but I had a serious reaction and had to change - many times. Anyway, I hear you on feeling blunted. I feel so dulled down and flat. I dont feel like me. Ugh

Hello, Louise.

My cousin has bipolar1 and I'm not sure what meds he is on, but I think the best thing to do is tell the psychiatrist how you feel.

There must be other drugs for your condition which will help you lead a happier life.

All the best, Jasper.

I don't have any experience in this area. But maybe there is something else even herbal that you can take to counter the numbing.  Or different kind of diet you could try. I know for example, beets can give you energy..

Hi Inmate88

Thanks for replying. Yeah i feel the same, but I have to take them too. I am grateful that am better, though and back at work.

Hi Jasper

Thanks for replying. I told my doctor, but he said this is a side effect of the meds. Mind you it's better than other antipsychotics I have tried.

Hi Anon,

I eat well and take omega 3,6,9, but will try beets😀. I almonds and banana for the magnesium. Will check out the herbal thing too x

How long have you been on antipsychotics? I have been on them for 8 months. What one are you on?

Hi Louise. I've been on them since October 2014, and found the one that helps best, though not much, is Amisulpride.I have an AD, anxiolytic and sleeping tablet as well.

Where abouts in the world are you Lou? I'm in the UK x

Hi Inmate88, am in Scotland. I take lithium and citalopram too and half a sleeping tablet. Lou x

Then maybe you'll have to learn to live with it?

I mean, if your psychiatrist has run out of suitable drugs for you, there doesn't seem like there's much more that can be done.

Join a ballroom dancing class or something.

I got several medals for ballroom dancing and it's so exciting, Louise.

Mind you, I'm probably a bit older than you but i still go every week.

I have joined a glass glass in the village I live in. I make glass dishes and jewellery. My aunt used to do ballroom dancing and loved it. Well done in getting all medals😀. I am 45. Lou x
