I have been getting fairly persistant sciatica in my buttock and radiating down my operated leg for few days. Does anyone have ant tips for easing it? I do ice my wound and use a lumbar support in bed and when sitting. My pain meds dont work well on it
I am 6 weeks post-op and my sciatica has settled in the buttock on my operated side - PT suggested I sleep with a LARGE pillow under that knee. I suppose it helps ‘some’. I will be discussing this with my surgeon tomorrow at my 6 week checkup with surgeon.
I not yet able to do the stretch for the sciatic nerve the PT suggested.
(the pillow I use is a triangle shaped pillow one might put behind their back when watching TV)
I have found the only thing that helps me with sciatica is a physiotherapist. I do sometimes use a TENS machine too.
I have the same problem .and going tomorrow for physio therapy

yes i have had help from physio previously, i am not sure i am mobile enough to do the exercises which usually help me. i wasnt sure if its swelling putting pressure on the nerve or positional from sleeping on my back and sitting too much
how many weeks post op are you? Good luck for tomorrow
Kebra, what is the stretch that the PT suggested?
This can apparently be done lying or sitting and in yoga is called the ‘pigeon’

I had this and doc. gave me Amiriptyline 10mg one at night worked well at ten weeks came off them all is fine. I know they are an anti depressant but are also a good muscle relaxant and not addictive in the short term I am now going into week 12 and going well.
Pain meds do not work well on nerve pain, and that’s what sciatica is, a trapped sciatic nerve.
Often with nerve pain, the pain is in one place, but the problem is further up the nerve where it is pinched or trapped.
I had severe shoulder blade pains which turned out to be a trapped nerve in the spine up in my neck, all sorted very easily by a good osteopath.
