Scoliosis surgery 3 years ago, now excruciating pain

Okay so I am 19 years old & I had scoliosis surgery when I was 16. They fused my spine & put 2 rods & 10 screws in. Since then, I have hurt. All the time. However, the past 3 weeks, I've been in almost unbearable pain, I can't stand for a long time, I can't sit for a long time, I have cut my hours at work, it is interfereing with my everyday life. I wanted to see if anybody has had a similar surgery/problem & actually found out that something else was wrong ? I did go to the doctor & they said the fusion was perfect but they said the hardware could be irritating me. I just wanted to see if anybody had this surgery & still had problems later ... thanks in advance!!!

Hi Jessica,

My back actually felt much better after I recovered from my surgery.

I didn't have any pain until much later when my lower curvature got worse. I am wondering if maybe a nerve got irritated somehow during the surgery?

Well, my Lower curvature is what was fixed. I have no idea what to do. The doc suggested taking my hardware out but I'm scared to do that.

In my case, what was causing the pain in my lower back was the muscle spasms that occur when the scoliosis pulls you out of alignment. That is what also caused a great deal of pain in my upper back before I had my surgery. For me, practicing Bikram yoga had been a godsend. I was told by a spine specialist that additional surgery on my lower back was pretty much my only option. Instead, I began practicing Bikram yoga a little over 4 years ago, and to this day I am pain-free. I'm not sure it it would help in your  situation, but I don't see how it could hurt. Bikram is a gentle, stretching yoga practiced in a hot, humid room. When I began I was pretty weak and in a lot of pain, but the heat and stretching make my back feel better almost immediately. The teachers never push, in fact they are always encouraging you to listen to your body and not push past where you are ready to go.
