Hi All:
I saw my surgeon today for my 8 week post op visit, and he said all is fine. He is working on getting my LTHR scheduled now, and he said it would likely be sometime around the end of August. He asked if I preferred to wait a while longer and I told him NO! I just want it over with and want to be able to walk and function normal again. I am functioning a lot better since my RTHR, but still have a lot of pain and a way to go before I will be good....Looking forward to it, and then again NOT looking forward to it. At least I have experience and the advice of all you lovely hippies this time.....Thanks....Barb
Barb,
Glad you are doing well after 8 weeks, you sure are brave to go and do your LTHR doe so soon! I need both done but have a bit of time for my R. Wishing you a speedy recovery as your prepare for #2!!
Annette
Congrats on doing so good after 8 wks. I can't believe you are doing the other hip so fast, you a doing great. I wish you good luck.
Kathy
I would do the same, Barb. I'd schedule that second hip surgery as soon as possible! I'm just 3.5 weeks out but I already feel so much better than I did with that horrible arthritic pain. I'd be racing to get the second hip done!
I'm sure I'd feel a bit nervous, too, but, like you say, you have the experience now. You know people on this forum who have had both hips done. We'll all be hear for you....waiting to hear how the next surgery goes! It will be great.
Glad that your 8-week check went well too!
Leslie
You are a brave woman!
You are still in pain 8 weeks out? I was hoping it would not last that long, I'm only 2 weeks out.
Best of luck to you with your next surgery!
Lorrena
I agree with u. You will have all our support here.
You are strong and have a great attitude. You will be heeled & ready for Christmas a favorite Holiday. Shopping up a storm!
Thanks Hope4cure.....exactly what I was thinking, get it done now and over with and hopefully will be feeling good by the holidays...
Hi lorrena, lol I don't know about brave, just tired of not being able to function or walk properly. I am doing great after my RTHR, but am walking with a cane now. I don't think I will have much more improvement until the left hip is done. My surgeon doesn't think so either. I have had such a long time with barely being able to walk or function and now that I am doing better than before I want to be as best that I can be. I am really honestly dreading it again, but I dread being stuck like I am even worse. I know now that the first two weeks are the worst part and once those weeks are over it will get better. So here I go again....Thanks again....Barb
Oh just notice lorrena, no not in pain from the hip that was replaced but from my other hip that is severe OA....my operated hip feels great and the only pain I have from it is a little pang here and their, but nothing bad at all.....just wanted to clarify that....Good luck and hope you heal quickly...Barb
Yeap! Your going for what's best for you! You'll be in shape to shop up a storm during the best time of year! Of course my advice bring ur own folding light chair! Or short outings. Great for the spirit and heeling!
I went to Disneyland 4 months after my 2nd THR.
Keep us posted!
Thanks Leslie, yep I just want it over with. I have dealt with pain for so long I just want some relief. My right hip had been bad for a long time and I put it off because I was caring for my elderly father. Then the left hip went also along with some spine problems and it has been a pretty bad last 15 months or so for me. After the right hip replacement is the most relief I have had in a long time. I am currently still walking with a cane and doubt that it will get any better because the left hip is so bad it hurts to try and stand on it or put to much weight on it for over a few minutes. I am tired of hobbling along like I am 90, heck have seen some 90 year old people who probably walk better than me...lol....so here I go again. At least once it is over maybe I can be able to function and walk a lot better and hopefully unaided...Good luck to you......Barb
Thank you Kathy....yes, my right hip is doing great no problems their...Originally my surgeon wanted to do the second one 8 weeks after the first one (which would have been today), but I told him at my last visit I wasn't ready yet. Since I also had a fractured pelvic bone and was not weight bearing after my first surgery he didn't push me to go ahead so soon, and just said we would discuss it on the next visit (which was today). So when he asked if I wanted it done now or did I want to wait a while longer I said no schedule it now. So as soon as he gets the approval we will be setting a date and doing all the pre-op. Shouldn't take too long and they even gave me the new pre-op ex-ray orders today....Good luck to you too Kathy....Barb
Thanks Annette....nope not brave and already getting nervous about it. I just want to be out of the bone on bone pain and to be able to walk and function fairly normal again. The left hip is so bad that it hurts all the time, standing, walking (or rather hobbling with a cane), sitting, or even laying down. No relief ever from it. I am really dreading it, but so want it done and over with if that makes any sense...Wishing you well....Barb
I know as soon as my right starts acting up I am having it done, it isn't quite bone on bone yet, hopefully my left will be healed and I can go in. Hubby needs a hip done to thank God for replacement parts, speeedy recovery everyone!!
You have been through a lot, Barb. Too much. I just had my one bad hip and that was enough! I'm glad you're getting some relief from the first surgery. Do keep using the cane though. I found it really helped me the last couple months before my surgery. I hated it -- I didn't want to look like a 90+ year old -- but it got so bad that I had to. Now I walk outdoors with my walker and try to not let it bother me. All this is probably teaching us all some good lessons about pride and ego and what is important.........Sometimes life would be better without quite so many lessons!
Hugs,
Leslie
At first I thought this was an old post mentioning Christmas......but I guess it is going to come around not too far off. I'll be 6 mos post op so should be pretty good then. I have an 11-month old granddaughter. My first. This will be a fun Christmas with her this year.....and I hope I"ll be able to get down on the floor and play with her!
According to your need to interact with your granddaughter during Christmas
holiday that definately gives incentive & of course you will be playing with her and taking lots pics of it too! Every day we get better! Keep up those butt squeezes !
Hi Leslie:
Good to hear that you are progressing in your post op. It must be a relief as you were obviously really in pain before the surgery. That sounds like a great Christmas gift to look forward to, a strong new hip and playing on the floor with your granddaughter.
Hi Barb. It's good to hear that you have relief from your Right hi. Sorry to hear but have had to endure pain for so long with the left hip and spine problems. You expressed what a lot of us would think about wanting to go ahead with the surgery but dreading it at the same time. I am sure you have made the right decision for you.
All the best.
Cathy
Thanks Cathy.....Hope it is the right decision....so apprehensive but it really needs done....Wishing you well....Barb
