hiya everyone , Iam now 4 Weeks plus post op .
walking around house without stick most of time… but i am struggling with 1, confidence

..try to walk as normal as can …keeping foot at normal angle , so easy to walk with foot out wards.
So i am not sure if this causing pain ? , it helps to heat pad it regularly .

Hi Susan, I assume the pain is on operated leg? 4 weeks still a little soon, the muscle in thigh is to be expected, the knee and ankle pain may be caused by the compensation of limping previously and the muscles need to re-train. Stick with the sticks for as long as you need to, it will help with your gait until you feel strong enough for 1. I am just 4 months out and still have the knee pain occasionally, so I purchased a retractable walking stick for my daily walks until I feel confident that some clown is not going to bump into me. Stick to some pain relief and heat pad too, our cold weather is not helping either. Confidence will come back but I feel the same occasionally. Good wishes
Helen
I think that you should ask the question as your foot should not be pointing outwards after hip replacement, it could be you need Physio to help improve the position of the hip in socket, your doing the right thing keeping it positioned forwards and if your sleeping on your back make sure you pack the foot pointing upwards to stop it dropping over onto the side
Hello Susan,
At four weeks or so you are still going to have pain, swelling, aches at various stages, you are healing inside as well as out. When you walk, walk heel toe you need to concentrate on this as it does not come natural sometimes and bring you foot in straight as you walk heel toe. it will with a bit of training be okay.
