I had a RTHR last July and am absolutely thrilled by the outcome. no pain, increased flexibility, I totally got my life back. I am now booked in to have my left hip replaced tomorrow.I hope that my second surgery will be as successful as my first was.
My knees both ache and I am hoping once surgery is over that will settle.
Last time I found this group to be a brilliant support post op, and someone was usually able to answer any questions I had.
hi eleanor

Hi Eleanor,
wishing you the best of luck on your surgery.
i just had my 2nd one done 4/16/19. The recovery pain is up and down but the best part is that it’s behind me.
Looking forward to your update.
May God bless your recovery.
good luck! I’ve got right in 3 weeks! just had my left done 3 weeks ago - i’m walking much better but not 100% and can’t drive yet.
good luck x
i was lucky to have both mine done at the same time last july so only one lot of pre op stress and time off work
my knees stung so much before i couldnt sleep no knee pain ( they felt swollen and puffy for a while but good now )
Congratulations and good luck with your new one
Hi Dawn,
I’m still impressed when someone does both at the same time, I wanted to but my Dr said no.
How was your recovery?
How long were you out of work?
" were you in the hospital before coming home?
hi i went in early monday at 7am op was st 10-1
they had me on a zimmer frame by 7pm doing half a dozen steps
i was only off work7 weeks but i dont have a manual job I do need to drive a lot though
i went home on the thursday and my mum looked after me for 2 weeks its so important to not do too much at all other than the exercises and walking bit further each day have to admit i was tired on first week back and i was supposed to be doing half days for first 2 weeks back but it didnt quite work i feel amazing now so nice to not fear walking anywhere and no tablets since well before christmas x
hi dawn,
what was stopping you going back to work? pain? movement? tiredness? all of the above?
Wishing you all the best!
hospital gave me sick note for 6 weeks and that was about the time i could drive ( you have to be able to comfortably do an emergency stop) i was v tired since i struggled sleeping on my back i know someone else who is a nurse and due to bending and lifting shes not allowed back yet and its more than 6 weeks i am lucky that i can do some work from home hope it all went well do as youre told with your exercises every day if you can go to swimming pool once wound has no scabs i found that so good for my recovery even just walking in the water and doing cycling movement whilst holding pool side in a corner plus your recommended daily exercises the support of the water gets your leg higher x
Hi Dawn,
thanks for your expertise - I’m starting to walk but get very tired quickly. I did move the car the other day but couldn’t reach the brake comfortably without loads of effort so driving is still out the window. I’ve got a sick note until July due to my second op due in 3 weeks - got physio tomorrow.
KR,
Dan
Hi Eleanor
I hope your operation went well. I go to find out next week when my surgery will be. I am very scared as I’ve never had major surgery ever.
Keep me posted on your recovery.
Hi Janice,
Thank you for your good wishes.
My surgery went very well and I was discharged from hospital yesterday. I feel really well and only require paracetamol for pain relief.
I went into theatre at 2.25pm having had a spinal block with sedation, I woke up in recovery at 3.45 and was back in the ward just after 4. I saw and heard nothing during my surgery.
From my experience the real hard work starts now, the physio gave me exercises to do, and I know its imperative to do them regularly. Having to rest at home and let my husband look after me is hard, but I know from my experience of having my other hip done last summer, that this is important
I wish you all the best for your surgery, its daunting facing surgery, it will give you your life back, from my experience. Please let me know how you get on. This group is a wonderful support. .
