Hi, Anyone out there on their second set of THR and did you have problems with your first set wearing out and damaging pelvis? Thank you, Tony
Hello, Tony! Are you asking if anyone has had a revision/replacement of a THR? I know some people here have had one, and hope they reply to you soon. I am 7 months out from my first THR, so I have no advice to give. Just hope that you are doing ok. It sounds like you are considering having a replacement?
Hi Tony,
I just looked at your profile and read that you are due a replacement of your hip after 26 years ... is that correct?
How bad is the damage?

I can't answer you either - I had 2 THR surgeries , one right, one left , done within months 6 months -
How are you getting on otherwise?
big warm hug

I am recovering from revision, but not because of it wearing out, mine was due to a surgical error in the placement of my ceramic insert.

Hi Renee, Thank you for your concern over post. 5 years ago was informed that my THR put in in 1989 had worn out and were creating ' voids' in my pelvis. Was suggested just to monitor. Had a bad fall 2 years ago had have deteriorated ever since. My Specialist in Scotland has referred me to Exeter, this has taken since June. Seeing them in April but not sure at 67 if want to go through complex surgery, and an 800 mile trip there! Regards, Tony
Tony,
That is an enormous distance to go with a newly repaired hip. Is there nowhere nearer that could do it? How would you travel?
The National Orthopaedic hospital is in Stanmore, just north of London, wouldn't that be easier to get to by East Coast line train with the use of a wheelchair, or would they transport you by ambulance?

Thank you Graham for your comments and concern. I do spend a lot of time in Cornwall which might be easier particularly as a pensioner but still unable to claim any travel costs. All my Surgeon in Inverness does is try to talk me out of any operation, and am starting to talk myself out of it too, therefore trying to gauge others opions and experience, regards, Tony
The only reason I mention Stanmore, is that they only take the more complex cases, and it sounds as if yours would fall into that category.
I am being referred there with my misplaced (and firmly stuck) acetabular insert.
