Second THR...not gone well

My first THR went really very well.  Second THR took place three weeks ago.   Hip dislocated within hours of the surgery and had to be sorted. Ten days later turned over in bed...hip dislocated.  Taken to hospital where it was sorted. Surgeon put me on his list for a hip revision.   Before that could happen, hip dislocated.  Taken to surgery to gave it sorted and lying in the recovery, moved and the hip dislocated again.  Hip revision surgery the next day.  Apparently a screw has been inserted.    My question is....how secure is this?  My confidence is totally shot!   Every time I put my foot down I imagine the hip dislocating again.    Been walking as much as I can.   Leg is badly swollen and so tight.  Help!

Oh Jan, how awful. No experience of this but maybe speak to your therapists to get some confidence building advice.

I still suffer from tight swollen leg. Not as tight and swollen as prev but lasting much longer. I just wait for the day it starts to go down. I use ice packs and elevation and walking.

Good luck to you.

Hello Jan, Im so sorry to read this, thats awful for you. I havent had this experience but wonder about you 'turning over in bed' - I was told to stay on my back in bed for at least 6 weeks, there was no turning over. have these dislocations all happened in bed? xx

dear jan,

that is terrible ... I don't know what would make feel confident again ...

did they tell you why your hip just dislocated like that ? is there something different with this hip - do they have the correct protheses?

have you been shown the xray - before and the after -

I think that I would consider a 2nd opinion, maybe from a orthopedic surgeon who is specialized in revisions/repairs ...

let us know how you are getting on okay?

big warm hug
