I had my RTHR March 24th with great results. After 4 months I've been walking a lot and it's been feeling good but the more I walk, the stronger my new hip gets, the more my left hip hurts. I am looking forward to getting it done but I am not looking forward to the surgery. I haven't forgotten how miserable of an experience the last one was.
Hi Chris you have to look on the posative side of things that the problem and pain you have now with your left hip will be put right and in no time as with your left hip you will be back to normal. I do understand where you are coming from but try and stay posative
I know what you mean. I had my RTHR 15th February. My left one didn't give me any pain, just a bit stiff, but the X-ray indicated that it needed replacing also. My left hip started to give me a bit of pain about a week or two before my RTHR and since then it has rapidly gotten worse. The left hip pain isn't quite the same as the pain I had for the right one, but I suppose it depends on how the cartilge has worn. When I last saw the surgeon at the end of June I told him I wanted to leave it as long as possible, due to the memory of the RTHR, also because I start a new second part-time cleaning job in September and also my son goes to University in September (he helped my husband walk the dogs and look after my hens on my allotment). The hip pain of the replaced hip affected my ability to sit for longer than 10 mins and also was painful walking. My unoperated hip is much more painful to walk but I can sit alright.
But yes the being dependant on others to look after me and to do all my chores, and the pain and uncomfortableness of the op is still on my mind.
There are quite a number of us having our second hip replaced over the next two months (about a dozen by my count) and I think we are all grateful for the availability of the operation and the relief it will provide. However ... not at all looking forward to the recovery period again!
Oh the lovely injections, the trying to sleep on our back and failing, the nightime sweats and 'uni-hips' and pooling of swelling in our legs and feet and of cours the wretch ed slated cushion - what's not to love!
But .. we know what to expect, how to deal with most of it, that we can prevail and especially that we have the world's best forum at our backs.
Hang in there.

Hi Chris:
I know how you feel, and I am right in the same boat with you! Just had my rthr on May 17 and my surgeon is working on getting approval for the left one some time near the end of August. Sure not looking forward to going through that again either, but am looking forward to it being done and over with and out of pain. Wishing you luck.....Barb
Hi Chris,
I know, not something to look forward to, is it ? Good thing that your new hip is getting stronger -
At my follow up appointment from THR I was shocked when I was told that other hip's cartilage had gone from mild to severe, bone on bone and needed surgery -
You are already finding out that it doesn't get better but worse -
It is a catch 22 - first you did not know what to expect and now you do know - hooray ???
At some point I focussed on having 2 new hips and finally be able to heal -
Let us know how you are getting on, okay and ask any question or concern ...
big warm hug
