With primary hypothyroidism you should not eat certain things (i.e. cruciferous veggies), is this true with secondary Hypothyroidism?
Hi there, Inlaw. In everything I’ve read, I don’t recall seeing primary and secondary hypothyroidism. So I had to look this up. My condition is low thyroxin with slightly elevated TSH, so I guess that’s still primary.
My experience has been that when the disease is flaired, my immune system is so irritated that I pretty much can only eat meat and vegetable soup, no raw veggies. The cruciferous veggies have certain chemicals that can be toxic- I found a diet of cabbage soup for example, to be problematic in general.
My condition was extremely exacerbated by stress and thyroid synthetic medications, though I think the real trigger was environmental.
Once I got off the meds and detoxed after several years, I was able to ear raw vegetables again. I do often eat salads containing cabbage, I enjoy cooked broccoli and I eat strawberries.
If the condition is flaired, I’d avoid certain foods, if not, I don’t worry too much. Except for glutin- I’m highly sensitive and avoid even trace amounts.
In the end, you’ll have to test it for yourself and see if you feel its harmful to you.
