I really don’t want sedation unless I absolutely have to, but am I being stupid? Has anyone had just the block? What did you feel/hear?
I have had both hips replaced and had spinal block in both occasions. To be honest i did not feel or hear very much at all as I drifted off to sleep but as I had a cannula in they may have given me something else. It is wise to avoid general anesthetic if you can,
Same for me, I had the spinal block and as soon as I was comfortable on the operating table I nodded off… and woke up as they were finishing dressing the wound. They must inject something which makes you sleep, but not as deep as an anaesthetic.
Hi Vicky,
Ive just joined and your question leaped out at me.
I note you posted it 2 months ago…which did you choose I wonder? I am living no life with my hip and the last delay was down to a query over a leaky heart valve I have. In my mind there IS no choice. i am going for sedation as I think you need to be pretty tough to listen to the drilling and banging and sawing that is going to be going on just down there in YOUR body!
Perhaps you, or anyone else here might pass comment. I also have a neurological issue and an irregular heartbeat and I have been housebound with pain for a year now. It has truly taken away a lot of my life over the past year when I have been beaten by it.
I wonder if any doctors/surgeons ever come on here? Did you get any helpful answers from anywhere?
regards,
Julie .
