Seeing my surgeon today

Hi hippies

I am off to see my surgeon today at 1 p m. I will be 5 week post op tomorrow ( 19 / 5 / 15 ). He wants to do more x rays ( I have had so many over the years I glow in the dark. Neat trick on Hallooween  ) and I hope I can have a chat to him. I have decided not to wear my TED stockings and have not done so since Friday. My operated foot turned blue almost black and my knee swelled up and was so painful I really could not stand it any more. So he is just going to have to accept it or give me / do something different. My right Knee  /  Hip ( unoperated side )are now causing me real issues and unless I lay on the bed I can't even excesize. I can just about walk outside about 30 feet before it is too much and that is less than when I came out of hospital.

Hi I am 4 wks post op this wk and I am fed up of wearing my stocking my knee and ankle still causes me problems, I have my first phisiio session on Thursday hope this helps . Hope you get on ok today

eek  Oh happy day !!!   Did you make a list with questions to ask and is someone coming with you?  I know about the unoperated leg/hip being (more) painful ... good luck and please let us know how it went ....  take care

Oh dear I am sorry you are troubled. At least you are getting seen and hopefully get some answers. Let us know how you get on

Hi touchy My surgeon won't give me physio till at least 6 weeks post opo. But I am going to see if I can change his mind.

Hi touchy

sorry to hear about your pain and discomfort with your operation. I never experienced that myself but hope things get better on your road to recovery. I'm 35 and had a LTHR In March this year but I haven't experienced that much pain now on. I guess people heal at different rates but I also have a high pain threshold and didn't really require much painkillers in hospital, just wanted to rest most of the time.

Hi reenee.

Yep had enough experience with surgeons to know to make a list so I don't forget. No I got no one going with me but I won'ty be bullied by the surgeon or his staff. They know I don't mince my words and I always record the appointments on my phone any way.biggrin

Yes I will post again when I get back for sure. smile

Hi Ann & thank you

I had problems with the TED stockings with my hystorectpomy. Butmy surgeon back then had me on tablets where it didn't matter if I couldn't get on with them. This time I am only on asperin so maybe at more risk of DVT but I am going to ask about going on the same tablets as last time.

I will let you know how I get on. smile

Sorry to hear about your uneventful recovery so far. Something must be wrong if you are getting pain in the other hip. Did they do a pelvic X-ray first to determine if both were buggered? Must be serious if you're leg and foot goes like that after surgery. I feel for you I really do. Just hope answers you are looking for hopefully solve your predicament and here's to a safe and speedy recovery.

all the best and keep us posted.

Hi Evileye.

Yes they did a pelvic x ray and both need doing left hip first at my request which is now done and right hip in September. right hip is knckred also and now is getting really bad.

The TED stockings my hospital use are only in different sizes not in how hard they squeeze your leg so it doesn't matter if they measure you for the right size it is the tention that can't be changed so I think that is the issue. I only have one more week if they try to force me to weart them agfain but if they are causing me issues then they will have to think again. I know it isn't how they are getting put on so I know they are fitted correctly it is the fact that they are way too tight.

Thank you I will smile

So sorry to hear how much you have suffered with those darn stockings.you are definitely right to take them off. Especially it caused do much swelling and discoloration of your foot.omg that should never happen.hope your bought on 19th you will get answers.Hugs xxxx

Hi Just got back from seeing my surgeon he had me doing cartwheels on the x ray bed again  rolleyes Oh can you get into this position? Yeah right you do know I had my left hip replaced only 5 weeks ago don't you ? I will get as comfortable as I can but you are going to have to take pics in the position I am comfortable in not what you want geez a person can only take so much and there is no give in those tables and one with a bad back would love a hard table like that.sad

Once the x rays were done it was back to clinic. I took a sneeky pic with my phone of my hip x ray as they put it up on the computer screen and left the room razz So I now have proof of what I had done. I have to carry on with the asperin but have permission to take off my stockings they will be cremated later.lol I have one area that 5 weeks on still has not healed on the scar properly but although it is red it is not infected so that is a good thing. I think it is where the last stich was cut by the nurse on my first post op appointment she won't be doing that again. frown. Another trip to the hospital in 3 weeks.

Hey

thats good to hear but sorry to hear about your scar. They used absorbable stitches on me which was cool but I do get some numbness every now and again down my scar. Does your X-ray explain much?

Good to hear you are doing ok.

Keep up the. Good work with your recovery

Hi Evileye

They used melting stitches on me at my request I didn't want staples.

I still have the numbness but only over the sitched area everywhere else is fine.

I am not sure I can post pics on here. But I have put my x ray as my avatar.

I can see why I am now having so much trouble with my right hip. The cup where the ball of the femer should fit is there. But there is no ball left on my right side to fit into it. It is just a flat surface. eek Now I know why it hurts so much. sad

Hi Hailea ... goodness ...  just had to stand against the wall to have x-raya taken ... sosprry to hear about your scar though - Mine was stapled and taken out 14 days post op .... well, at least those evil contraptions are gone ... Good night -

I thought I would try to post a pic of my x ray. I hope I do not get into trouble for it.

Hi renee. I asked about that and they said no my surgeon wants me to lay on the table grrr. So painful. Good night to you too smile

Holy moly that's no good and I can definitely feel your pain. I was given my X-ray after I left hospital which was after a week. As for your right hip, any reason why it's like that? Is it osteoarthritis that caused it to go that way? I really feel for you, must really hurt ouch!!

I hear back from my insurance today whether they accept my claim for income protection due to time off work, hopefully it goes well.

As for your stocking thing, I wear compression pantyhose or tights. I'm a guy and I'm not afraid to say it, but if it helps aid blood flow especially as I'm on my feet 90% of the working day I'll wear them plus they feel great on. My surgeon suggested it and from then on I haven't looked back.

Just hope your right hip gets seen too asap cos I could only imagine the pain. I actually was given the ball from the socket of my hip after my op. It was knackered. I can't remember if I got photos of it still.

I might be able to send to you if I could find them. Will let you know. Could also send you a shot of my X-ray with my new prosthesis

Hievileye.

Yes it is osteoarthritus that has caused this in both hips. I have been suffering since I was 45. But I have been told it could have happened at any age because I was born with a hip defect in both hips. So it could have happenbed at any age so my surgeon has told me. I am lucky I didn't get it really bad till I hit  48 - 49. So at 50 I had the first of the two ops. Yes it does hurt a lot and much more since I have to comensate for the operation on the left. Both sides were as bad as eachother so I tossed a coin which on to do first. So if I had, had the right one done first the left would be this bad. No wiw either way for me.

The only reasong I have issues with the TED stockings is they don't go over my knees and thew compression on them is way too much. They have different sizes but not different compression streanths so if they had gone over my knees I would have no issues with them.

I have to wait till september before my surgeon will even thinbk about doing the right side.I have tried to post a link with my xray on but the MODs of the forum have to say it is ok for me to post it. I just hope they will let me have it on the forum. I am a MOD on another forum and I would rather not break the rules.

So you either had S.U.F.E or slipped upper femoral epiphysis, or you had hip displysmia which I guess translates as hip displacement. One or the other or if not both if you are unlucky. I do feel your pain, really do
