Is it acceptable to see your gp about my onset of dry eye. I have been to an opticain about to to not much luck for a proper diagnoises just told to put drops in. To limited success. Could my eye dry be caused by an underlieng condition? Could my gp look in to this? Or would he just send me too an optician?
i have cronic dry eyes except mine run like crazy. see another dr. i have been to 5. i had recontructive tear ducts the works, still the same. my niece has the same thing except hers is so dry it feels like razor blades. she uses a sab you can buy over the counter and puts it in a night. it is almost like putting vaseline in but she said it works. use drops as much as possible. see another dr if you didn't like what this one said.
For years I have had burning eyes when outdoors and aptomitrist would alway say to use plenty of eye drops for dry eyes and this rarely helped (could make it worse). I accenently found a cure that would always instantly stop the burning. the fix is to clean the eye lids with a eye wash using a rolled up 3x3 steril gauze pad. An optimoligest explained that excessive bacteria on the eye lids eat the lubricating oil in eye and produce soap which burns the eye. Your problem may be different then mine but it is worth a try (won't hurt to try).
You should go to your GP who can advise you on all the types of drops /gels/ointments you can use,many of them on prescription but if you are not getting free prescriptions they are usually cheaper to buy. This is a common problem,often discussed on this site. There are varying degrees of dry eye and its a game of trying all the preparations to see which one is right for you. Dont neglect this condition.
dry eye may be due to local causes or a part of systemic autoimmune disorder, So it is better to visit an ophthalmologist.
