Seeking advice about post surgery trauma caused by a major change in body shape

I would be grateful for any advice that anyone can give me on this. Four weeks ago my mother had a major operation. She was in surgery for 8 hours. The main purpose was to operate on a historical stomach condition. The secondary part of the operation was to remove excess skin and fat. The operation was successful and my mother is now home. The healing process will naturally take months and she is obviously suffering the normal frustrations and impatience of feeling helpless and inactive. However, the thing which has concerned me most is that she has been very depressed. She has suffered from depression in the past but this seems to be something on another level to anything I have seen in the past. Fortunately, last week she gave a clue to what I believe is the cause. She said "It doesn't feel like my body anymore" "It's not my body" and "I don't feel right". I've had some experience with veterans who have lost limbs and I'm aware that the physical adjustment comes hand in hand with a mental one. That said, I am no expert or therapist, I'm really worried about my mum, it breaks my heart to see her crying every day and I would be really grateful if any of you can give me some advice or offer some guidance on this. Thank you.

Hi Vicente, can you get in to see your doctor, if you could you could explain it yo your doctor. Maybe you could have the doctor visit her if you think you she won’t see anyone. How old is your mum? Anyone can get depression that’s all. I hope you and your mum gets the help they need.x
