My age today is 76. Following elevated PSA, a biopsy indicated prostate cancer in 2011. My GLSN score was 6 at worst. Instead of surgery, I opted for watchful waiting with exam twice a year and PSA. Because of bad experience with initial biopsy (repeated infection), I didn’t want to repeat it. Doc ordered MRI and did not show any growth. This was done 3 x in the last 10 yrs.
My PSA was never that high and he put me on finasteride 5 mg about 4 yrs ago.
In the last yr, I gradually reached a point where I cannot get an erection. The desire and urge is there. I can feel it begin but never sufficient for penetration.
It is possible for me to climax with oral stimulation and it is satisfying but would definitely want to have regular intercourse. Due to meds for BP, I am wary of taking Viagra, etc. I have tried a pump (non medical grade) which achieves results but does not maintain.
I understand daily Cialis is an alternative to finasteride but it is expensive and not covered by insurance.
Without going into detail, I must be discrete regarding pursuance of alternative solutions such as provided by several local men’s clinics using sound wave technology.
Almost daily, I get spam emails, etc promoting some “miracle” pill that is “all natural” with no side affects like Viagra, etc..
What happens if I stop taking finasteride?
The opportunity for sexual relations with an extramarital partner is infrequent and discretion is necessary at home if seeking alternative solution.
