Seen my surgeon today

Hi all.

I went to see my surgeon today for the first time since my LTHR. I was a bit concerned that my left leg was still shorter because I do still limp without a crutch. He measured me and my legs are both the same length. He said I still limp because I was one of the more complicated patients, they had to remove a whole peice of muscle to get to my hip, then put it back so this is why I limp as the muscle is still very very weak. I also have fluid around the cartalige in my right hip but they will drain it al some point. It is very reassuring that my op went well. I just need to strengthen my thigh muscles to stop the limping.

He said I only have a 2% chance of dislocation and can bend more than 90 degrees if I want

Feeling more positive now.

Xx

Great news and so reassuring for you.... not many give good explanations...

Now get building up those muscles.... lol..

Thats good news. Now u have to build your muscles.

Hi Julie,

Good to hear that all will be well, everything is a worry to start with isn't it?

It might be worth investing in an exercise bike if you don't already have one. I have found mine invaluable since both of my hip replacements and it has really helped to strengthen the muscles. You can do a very low tension to start with, building up as your strength returns.

Good luck xx

Hi Julie,

The very best exercise after hip replacement is in the pool.  You can start by walking through the water. Hold on to the side, facing forward and bicycle.  Get a float (most pools have them) and kick your legs, holding them straight. (not breast stroke). When you feel a little stronger and if you can, lie on your back and use just your legs to kick through the water.

Finally, attend aqua areobic classes which are not only great fun, but build muscle.

Muscles have a memory and before both my ops, I attended aqua aerobics three times a week and my muscles were strong. After both ops, my recovery has been swift. So soon as the restrictions are lifted, in four weeks time, I intend to return.

Good luck

Lots of Best Wishes and strong muscles.

Igreat news! I too am limping at 4 months. Same issue weak hip muscles. Hopefully we will get better with that! Best of luck luck to you!! 🤓 LD

They would not give me hydro therapy my welsh butty as they said it was ' too easy ' so I may just go myself to the local pool . Had hip class today and I was the youngest there and able to do the exercises the easiest but am still in lots of pain . Physio said surgeon has responded to her message about one leg longer and he will have a look himself when I see him next as it is too early to talk of foot implants yet . That is in three months . Am driving ok but that first time you get out of the car I could scream every time. Strange groin pain keeping me awake at night and in the morning I sort of have to stretch and Spring release my

Groin muscle to make pain go away . Still taking loads of painkillers but they don't seem to

Do much good maybe I have

Become immune ! Not feeling the love for my new hip yet as the pain is much worse than pre op and fed up of its almost constant presence . Growl ...

😏

Wonderful, good for you!

just keep up with your hard work, one day you will wake up and it will feel like your own.

hi julie,

good news all around .... sounds like your surgeon took the time to answer your questions and explain the process ... so thank you for sharing -

it is quite a brutal surgery and healing all the severed parts takes time ...

keep doing what you are doing, darling ..

big warm hug
