Auto-cathétérisme, infections et cathéter sus-pubien.

Hi all, I am a 38 year old male who since 2014 have been self  catheterising since 2013, I had a spinal injury and a fusion that didn't take. I was unable to urinate after this operation, and have lost all sensation, I also had a mini turp due to enlarged prostate.

Recently I have been getting a lot of infections, I have not changed anything in the way I care for myself,  in 6 months I have had 8 infections. The last one caused a abscess and I also had epididimitus. Since then ( 3 weeks ago. ). I had a permanent Cather put in, which was removed Friday of last week.

Now I have a few questions, since the above when I go to the loo, I now have urine leaking around the Catheter, so not only coming out the tube but pouring down the sides, I had a urodynamics test today and it shows I still have an atonic bladder, and even when I cough the nurse said there is no change in pressure at all.

Any suggestions why after all this time I am getting leakage and so many UTI.?

My urologist has said he would like me to have a superpubic catherter going forward. I am concerned this isn't the best option for someone of my age, but he said due to amount of infections it's what he thinks is best.

Any thoughts or questions please feel free to offer as I am so confused over both as I read you can get a lot of UTI from super pubic option as well.

What would you do??

Many thanks

Bonjour.

Hi David

Thanks for your reply.

I started of on these normal long catherters can't recall the make. But about 6 weeks in I went to Vapro Pockets, size 12, these are in a sleeve and come self lubricated. So it doesn't touch anything as you place it against the opening and then push the tube with the sleeve. I don't even need to use instagel to numb like they do in hospital.  But thank you for letting me know yours does also come from the sides. I guess as I drink a lot in day of water only I go 6 times a day but always a good load about 600 ml each time.

Thanks again 😀
