Sensation

hi all,

4 weeks on Thursday, and as I excercise and walk, I am concentrating on placing my foot and how my knee feels and all those individual sensations.

could it be my imagination, but like a car when driving if not balanced can pull to one side,

I feel my knee pulling either up to my thigh or slightly to the outer edge when putting my foot down in walk.

do you think this is just "early days". Has anyone else felt this?

Your muscles are not attaches as they were to bone. They have been dragged out of the way for the op.

Exercises strengthen these muscles. My knee felt very insecure and I was conscentrating on the feeling and position then I realised I wasnt  but I dont know when that happened.

Continue with exercise and walking with crutches or stick if needed

Sue, you still have a lot if internal swelling from bruising. More than likely the put a tight device around you leg to control bleeding and this is causing some blood pooling that will take time to break down. There are internal stitches that will take a little longer to dissolve. Swelling, retraining the stride and just getting total strength back will cause all kinds of crazy feelings for another 8-12 weeks. Things will all of a sudden go away and suddenly reappear. Not to worry, this surgery is as dramatic as it gets outside of possibly open heart, etc. Have patience and don't change your recovery progrAm or try to increase the timetable. Keep checking back and getting reaffomation. You'll be fine in a short time

Hi sue

Yes my knee tries to go left so i have to concentrate to keep central.x

Hi Susan - reading all the comments you've received, they are all spot on and sound advice! I noticed from early on that although my leg looks as straight as a dye, my foot seems to want to turn inward a bit, so i have to concentrate on how i put my heel down and then roll as smoothly forward as possible onto the toes. I guess until all the surrounding muscles have completely calmed down and fully strengthened this feeling of instability will persist. But....it all gets better in the end - this seems to be the general consensus - thank Heavens!
