Sentinel Pile or Hemorrhoid?

I'm a 29 year old female, with a past history of IBS. I'm looking for some opinions because I'm pretty freaked out after leaving my GI doctor's office.

For the past 5 years, I've had a squishy lump that's located about 6 o'clock position, just inside my anus. It will occasionally pop out during a bowel movement, and then recede back in after a few minutes. I did some research and figured out that this is likely a sentinel pile.  I recently had a 3 week period where I constantly felt like I needed to have a bowel movement, but didn't. So, I went to a gastroenterologist, who did a digital rectal exam and told me she felt the "squishy lump" which she thinks is a hemorrhoid, and referred me to a colorectal surgeon for an anoscopy.

Honestly, I'm freaking out! I know that lump has been there for some time, but the fact that she thinks I need to see a surgeon really scares me for some reason. I'm scared it could be anal cancer, even though I know it's rare. I can't get in to even see the surgeon for almost 2 months. Had anyone else had a DRE and had similar findings with a sentinel pile or hemorrhoid??

Most likely referred you to surgeon only to correct problem, you said it was there for a while, any type of cancer would pop up in blood work.. Where do you live that it takes 2 months to see a colon rectal surgeon?

Kat92308...We have a tendency to worry about the worst. I honestly don't think you should worry about having cancer. It could be a polyp or a hemorrhoid. Unless you have other symptoms I wouldn't worry.

Chill and relax..They are many other signs of cancer and I don't think you have them..

I've been waiting 3 months in the UK to see one and no end in sight yet. And they say the NHS is a wonderful thing...

Please try not to worry. Hemorrhoids can be a nuisance, especially if they're popping out after each bowel movement, that is probably why she wants to refer you to a specialist to see if they would prefer to remove it.

Wow thats a long time to wait, if your suffering from all the horrible symptons and pain that you may be having..In the U.S. all you have to do is say its an emergency and your seen that day, really sorry to hear that you have to wait so long...

Maybe there is not enough colon rectol specialists in the U. K. All kidding aside who wants to be a ass specialist, unless you get paid millions, that is probably the case here...
