Ive been on 10 mg citalopram for the last 3 weeks and recently decided im going to taper myself off of it and stop it. I was also given trazodone 50mg to take at night and only took it 2 nights half a pill the first night and the whole pill second night. Part of the reason im quitting is im scared of SS, what are the chances ive gotten it ? I know i havent been on the meds very long and my doses are pretty small but im still scared
what are the chances ive gotten it
None. If you suffered from the serotonin syndrome, you would know about it by now. Saying that - ciralopram and trazodone should not be taken together without close supervision. One is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, the other one is a serotonin receptors agonist. In addition to that, both are metabolised by the same liver enzyme. So unless there is a good reason for taking both medications at the same time, stopping citalopram sounds like a reasonable thing to do...
Thanks for your input yea im gonna stop both would rather try and fix myself naturally and not take the risk. I was worried cause it was recently that i took the trazodone, not last night but the two nights prior. Also ive been taking only half a citalo the last two days
So with the low doses im on and it being 40 hours or so that i took any trazodone you think no way i can have SS?
Thanks
Hi,
If you had SS you would be in hospital by now, taken by an ambulance to A&E. Shaking, with high fever, heart palpitations, in and out of consciousness. SS is not a flu, it is an acute reaction which requires urgent medical intervention.
Trazodone has a half-life time of ca. 12 hours. The amount of the medication that remains in your body after 40 hours does not have any clinical significance,
Ok thank you john
So it should ok for me to taper off of the citalopram with no chance of SS you think ?
