Sertraline brand variation nightmare!

Hi

I've read previous posts on this subject but please bear with me with the exact details of my meds.

I was prescribed Setraline just before Christmas and subsquently stubbled around for 2 weeks through a mountain holiday, all the time wondering to what extent my awful days were a result of my awful nights sleep.  Three weeks passed and I could breathe again.  I felt normal, but that bit more resilent.  The drugs had worked.  The brand was Aurobindo 50mg.

When I picked up my next prescription, the box was different:  Ranbaxy.  I thought nothing of it.  After about 4 days - a week, the insomnia returned, along with the sore eyes and the general unpleasantly spaced-out feeling.  It was a pressurised time at work, with a lot happening at home too.  I thought I was just going through a wobbly patch emotionally.  But that was two weeks ago and I still feel rubbish.  When I took my tablet today, I looked at the packet and began to wonder about the brand.  I discovered that others have experienced problems, although not with my particular brand swap.

Should I just stick it out? :-(

Personally, I would talk with pharmasist first and ask why the change.  Then talk with your doctor because I think they can specifically prescribe which brand is best for you.

I wish you well.

Thank you.  I went to the pharmacist and got the "it doesn't matter, it's the same active ingredient" argument.  I'm not convinced!  Will talk to GP.  Thnx again.

Hi it's often not that the ingredients aren't the same coz they usually.  The difference is usually in the expedient ie the way it is delivered.  For example I have copd and take an inhaler to open my airways.  It was then changed to the generic version due to cost and the new one was hopeless.  The pharmacist said all the ingredients were the same but the particles were finer.

This sort of thing can happen with any med so I would get your doctor to change you back onto the version which works best for you.
