Sertraline for depression & anxiety.

Hi I was put on sertraline 50 mg for two weeks, then 100 mg for the past week.

I had horrible loss of appetite for the first fortnight also anxiety and sleep loss. I feel that it's helping somewhat.

Now I feel tired, appetite low and also depression and anxiety still v bad.

Will this improve over the coming weeks?

Thanks

Dear star blue,

100 percent it will improve but it takes time. Have patience and keep yourself busy and engaged in something you like. All your side affect will gradually go away and you will feel normal. Take care and God bless.

Thanks Basil I appreciate it.

Patience is in short supply with me I suppose that's normal when you feel so bad.

Was in efexor xl for eleven years and I didn't do very well on it. Hoping this will be an improvement.

Starting CBT next week though not sure if I'll be well enough for it to be of use.

I wish I could try low dose ketamine therapy though it's not available yet here in Ireland. It's supposed to work very well for one third of patients with severe depression.

Hi starblue,

Iv'e been on them since sept 2013, there is no difference and if you read my previous post you will understand,

good luck,

Lynne.

Sorry, I meant two thirds.

Hi basil

The anxiety is coming on very strong from the increase in the dosage a week ago. Does this anxiety lessen over time?

Thanks

Yes anxiety will increase and then even out as time passes. Don't worry believe me you will feel fine after some time. I was in the same position a few months back. But remember to help others later as you recover. Take care . God bless.

Thanks basil

Starblue - how are you getting on? I ask as I am at the same point almost, that you were when you posted this. I am just over 4 weeks in, 3 weeks of 50mg, and ten days of 100mg. I feel so so down today

Hi Ruth

After 4 weeks on the sertraline I came off it and was switched to mirtazapine which I'm doing better on.

I c

.. I couldn't eat or sleep on the sertraline not to mention feeling horrible and no letup in the anxiety or depression. That's not to say that it won't work for you, it may need more time. Use your intuition. May the universe smile on you Ruth.

bless

Ollie

Thanks Ollie

I see the GP on tuesday. I've had ups and downs on the sertraline - but a massive down today, been anxious all day, shakey, jittery, unable to settle, crying.

We'll see!
