Hi to all fellow sufferers. Have been on 50mg sertraline (generic - Dr Reddy's Laboratories) for one month; not much of an improvement. Dosage now raised to 100mg. Insisted that I be put on branded sertraline (Lustral). Dr reluctantly agreed. He wrote out a 'private prescription' telling me I would be wasting my money; that there was no difference between generic and branded - except the price. Have paid £45 for 28 'branded' pills. Can anyone please advise whether I have the patient right to insist on a branded drug and not be penalised financially for it? If the Lustral does the job of course I am going to stay on it regardless of the cost factor. Anyone out there can share their experiences of Lustral as opposed to a generic form? Would really like to hear from you. mq7
Your doctor was right about wasting money. The generic one contains exactly the same drug as the branded one.

I cannot tolerate Lustral it simply doesnt work for me and in addition i get severe heartburn with it. Whilst all have the same active ingrediant it is only a small part of the tablet and they DO therefore work differently in each persons body.
