sertraline is buzzing noise in the head a side effect ????.

hi a have been on sertraline about 5 weeks now 4 at 50 mg starting into week 5 on 100mg a have had all the side effects but this one along with a not feeling here is really getting to me any adive would be grateful please or should i go back to the doctor.

sorry about the other post a did not think the first post through and i am really desperate to know if the buzzing is a side effect it is just if it was i could handle it as i have felt benefits being on sertraline it is just this is a bit more difficult to deal with.

I noticed ringing in my ears after a couple of days and googled it and it seemed to be a common side effect.  It mostly wore off after a few weeks but at quiet times I notice it more.

thanks for replying i notice it more when i am on my own plus it is making me more anxious am no sure these are going to work.

Hello John,

It seems to be a fairly common side effect which I hope will get better very soon. In the meantime, try to mask the buzzing, especially when you are on your own and it seems louder. Have music or TV on in the background to distract you. It's difficult, but try to stay calm in case the anxiety is making it worse. Be aware of the sound but try not to focus on it - devote your attention to anything else that replaces the unhelpful thoughts with more positive ones.

We are all different so you need to do what is right for you and dealing with side effects in the interests of reaching the beneficial stage of the medication is always a personal choice. Like you, I increased from 50mg to 100mg after a month. It's still probably worth holding on as the benefits may be just round the corner.

Very best wishes,

Digsby

hi and thanks for your reply the buzzing brought on high anxiety so much so a friend had to give me diazepam am going to phone the doctor tomorrow but thanks for your advice it really helps when you think your losing it take care.

Hi,

I'm still researching this one as indeed I am other aspects of my (so far) brief exposure to sertraline. I had taken 5 days at 50mg when as well as all the other usual crap we have to put up with I got the ear ringing to boot. As a newbie to anxiety issues with no prior experience to call on this totally freaked me out to the extent that I stopped the tablets until I could see the doc. I'm not as hardy as most of the people on here it seems. Day 1 on the tablets (on the way up) and day 7 (two days after stopping on the way down) were great totally normal days so I reckoned I was overdosing. Now i'm not so sure. I've been off the tablets for about a week now and the ringing remains although the volume goes up and down and occasionally it's almost inaudible. It's very difficult to know what's down to the sertraline and what's down to the underlying ailment but having been off it for a week I'm guessing it's the latter in my case and a feature of my anxiety issue. However, I've learned to cope with it a little better over the last few days so at least it doesn't freak me out anymore although I hope it goes away soon. You will be okay as long as you don't let it freak you out.

hi my name is dave I have been on sertralin for four years now and have tried many different drugs before I suffered a brain injury about 7 years ago and suffer from very bad depresion and have found that it is the only drug that helps. I am on 150 mg and sometimes feel spaced out but good most of the time and the only bad side affect I get is if I dont take it for a few days i get terrible noise in my head when I move my eyes, I know it sounds strange but I am used to it now and it does help me as my memory is very bad and when the noisess

start I know its because I havnt taken it and as soon as I rstart it all goes back to normal .. hope this helps cheers dave

Hi Dave

That fits in with the way I see it happening with me. I'm hoping to clear things up here without going back on sertraline. It looks like coming off it is as much of a rollercoaster as going on it in the first place.

hi a phoned the doctors got  an appointment tomorrow the buzzing noise can really be intense am not going to stop as according to posts on here that can be worse see what happens tomorrow.

hi and thanks for the advice this is such an up and down drug am not sure what to do a was on fluoxetine no side effects and when it worked it was good but it was not long lasting i am on them for ocd but now my anxiety has increased just have to waint and see how thing go take care.

Please , I realiz this post is years old and I BEG you ...if you read his please reply as I’m loosing hope and I cry a lot and I’m trying to care for a small child.   I have ringing in my ears and I think not sure that it was caused by sertraline.

it happened as I increased from 25 to 50 mg ..2 days on 50 mg and my ears were roaring loud.. I’ve only been off the med completely for 10 days now and no improvement ..

please does it ever go away ...please be honest with me wether that’s good or bad .. please please reply !

thanks , Joey
