I've been on 200mg for three weeks as of today and I don't even know if I'm feeling better. the month before that I increased every week and a half or so from 50 to 100 to 150 and then 200.
Prior to that I was on 200mg for 10 years and this May I started tapering down to 50mg. I was on 50mg for a few months until I started a new job which for some reason triggered a major setback in terms of anxiety/depression and thats when I started increasing my dose. I've tried lowering it before and got symptoms again so went bak on and everything was fine again.
It's taking so much longer this time and I'm really worried
It's my holiday break and I have spent too many moments crying about this. Im getting really really impatient
Hi,
Do you experience any side effects (headache, nausea, insomnia, etc.)? If yes - it means that the medication works and you need to give it more time. If you don't feel anything at all, it may be a sign that sertraline is not going to work for you again. It is not unheard of - sometimes people stop their medications for different reasons and when they try to come back after some time, the drug does not work any more. In that case you would need to speak to the person who prescribed it. Switching to another SSRI should help.
Hi John,
yes some side effects like insomnia, diarrhea, dry mouth, ringing in ears. I really hope I won't have to switch SSRIs. Sertraline has worked every time for me and the side effects don't last too long. I hope it's just a matter of time....
i did have some good days a few weeks ago and then they stopped.
Hi,
The fact that you experience the side effects means that the drug works - your body clearly sensed its presence in the blood/brain. As with all SSRIs, the usual time required to see the benefits is around 4-6 weeks. So... unless 6 weeks have already passed, you cannot really say that it doesn't work... Be strong and don't give up yet!
thank you, John! i'm trying so hard to stay strong but can't shake the fear that I won't get better. It's always worked for me so I need to keep the faith.
ill be at the 4 week mark on wednesday
