Hi, I've been taking 50mg of Sertaline now for two weeks as I suffer from depression (mild - Im finding it so hard to be motivated to attend college )
Does anyone else have the side effects of heart burn/indigestion straight after taking this medicine? making it hard to eat as I have a constant feel of sickness within my throat! I'm just wondering whether anyone else has the same/similar problem and if its really common! It makes it uncomfortable for me to sleep as well as it's just painful (not helping the fact that I also have sleep problems due to the depression!)
I still have those problems but I'm hoping it is different as I started my new dose. If you are having problems with motivation or energy try talking to your doctor or family member they will understand. Symptoms shouldn't last long but please don't wait more than 6 weeks to see if there is a change. If there is no change by the 6th week talk to your doctor or counsellor for a medication review. I still have symptoms after 6 months but today is the first day I am feeling a bit okay.
I've been on 50mg for nearly a week and get a dry/sore throat. I also feel sick and have lost my apetite, i still eat, just nothing like as much as i did before taking the meds.
I think digestive problems & loss of appetite are a very common side effect of this med. I've read many people try Complan to try and keep something nutritional going into their bodies as physical strength is so important when mental/emotional strength is lacking. Have you got college friends who could lend a helping hand at the moment or does the college have any counselling support in the short-term to help you get your mojo back? Pills are often just part of the solution to our recovery - we need a reason to get up in the morning, especially if sleep is poor. Fresh air and exercise are a good way of getting us tired at night, unless stress and worry are keeping us awake. Is there anything particular that you are anxious about when you can't sleep?
I hope the side effects start to settle down soon. Keep going if you can with the meds as it may take a few more weeks for you to feel the benefit. You are not alone on your journey though so let us know if you need any more advice or support. Although we all have different experiences, we are all heading in the same direction :-)
Stick with it bertram, it doesn't sound like you're getting too many side effects which is a good sign. Hopefully the meds will kick in soon and you will feel great 😃
Ah that's good to know that it is common! Yes I attend counselling every week that helps with my lack of confidence and low self esteem, but obviously cannot help the physical side of this and yeah exactly! They help the physical side of the depression, to give more energy and help me to be more motivated, building up the serotonin. I think I have sleeping problems because of the pressure of college work and also as I dread waking up in the morning, having anxiety of being around and talking to people!
Thankyou for the advice and support, it's always nice to know that you're not alone!
