I would also like to know that answer. .I'm recovering anorexic /bulimic of 30 years and I don't want to put on weight coz it's gonna open a can of worms. I take it in morning but I've noticed a paranoia type feeling at night. Anyone had similar feelings.
I'm taking sertraline since November 2015 , I'm gaining weight fast and I really need advice on how to lose weight in this drug as I'm supposed to take it for 2 yrs .
I take mine in the morning at breakfast time. Taking it at night kept me awake. As for weight gain.....if calories in are equal to calories out, weight gain won't happen. It's the lack of exercise when you are depressed that gains weight
Hello Kerry I actually lost a stone in weight and am still trying to put it
Back on as I couldnt really afford to lose it. I lost a stone in total at the
Beginning when taking Sertraline and I looked like a child from a concentration
Camp. I have managed to put half a stone back on but still not back to
My normal weight. I do a lot of running though so that in itself stops
The weight going on. I take my tablet at teatime with evening meal I find
To be the best time. It says you should take with food. I am in the
Process if weaning myself off now anyhow very slowly.
Thaks Tracy, I weight 8 stone and I cant afford to loose anymore either, I lost a stone in september due to stress.
I think i want to take mine in the afteroon/evening... do you find it helps you?
Thanks again, try milkshakes and soup in between meals to help you, thats what I have to do at the moment
Yes Im depressed but i havent been eating proper meals just small portions, but you are right if its equal it'll be balanced
Thanks Iris
hmm Id try create an exerccise routine, but gaining weight is exatly what I'd like from this, hopefully youll be able to come off it and loose weight as you wish
Thanks dodo
I weigh 8 stone and I cant loose anymore, I used to get paranoid on my old antidepressant, mostly night times, panicky if this is what you mean?
Hi
i took sertraline for two years and have successfully tapered off over 6 months finishing completely three weeks ago.
i always took my tablet at night before bed but I always had trouble getting off to sleep
initially I lost weight prob because it upset my stomach but then after a few months I put on weight - I'm not talking large amounts I ended up about 7 lbs heavier than I had been before taking them. Now I am almost back to my old weight by not eating after my evening meal. So I have taken steps to lose it, it hasn't just happened because I stopped taking the tablets.
The question you ask about weight being affected on these tablets will be a difficult one to answer as everyone will have a different experience, you will prob find as many people gained as lost when taking them.
Trial and and error I'm afraid but if you or anyone else is worried about these type of affects you should discuss with your medical practitioner before going on sertraline or any similar drug as some are known to have an effect on weight,
good or luck in finding an AD to suit you, one size definitely does not suit all
You are correct about weight gain/loss. And it's stated in the patient info sheet too. I suppose someone who loses appetite will lose weight and those who comfort eat will gain.
