Dear all, I was very happy for 10 years taking sertraline to combat depression caused by mood stabilizers Depakote and Risperidone (I am manic-depressive). Now I have to take tamoxifen for my breast cancer for the next 10 years. I found information, that Sertraline, being in the Moderate Inhibitor of CYP2D6 enzyme, blocks tamoxifen, but the 3 mentioned above meds - don't: http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/hormonal/serms/tamoxifen
Could somebody please advise about your experience taking Venlavaxine, Citalopram or Escitalopram?
Many thanks, Irena
Surely your doctor knows this ..he should have changed your Meds ...IMO ..citalopram is the best according to my pharmacist
Thank you for your reply. Today my GP changed my Sertraline to Citalopram after I showed her the printout of the above website. Not only my very good GP was not aware of this, but my very good oncologist and my very good chemists did not know about this. All of them checked their drug books on my request, and in none of them anything was said about sertraline and tamoxifen compbination problem. No is it clearly expressed on the leaflet that comes with tamoxifen.
Well Irena it is a good thing you were vigilant and read the leaflet..I hope you find citalopram is goog got you
best wishes for Christmas and fot your recovery
Pat
